Up until the new App 2.0 upgrade, this was a great product. The "upgrade (which is actually a downgrade), withdraws fuctionality and features, and made the app a garbled mess that is in no way intuitive. If you buy this, do not connect the internet or use the app. You will lose some of the best local features should you do so. List of changes include: Unrealiable connection between the stat and app. Constanstly remains "offline" in the app despite Alexa still maintaining communication and control. Loss of timed temperature settings (15 min, 30, min, until next period, etc) Temperature setting will now be set until you manually change it again. Loss of easy temperature and mode. changes. Unreliable schedule control from the app. If you want to use a schefule, set it up in the stat for reliablity. Essentially, they forced an update that changed the entire app and control gui and forced a firmware update that stripped features, lost all previously saved settings, an requires a new configuration setup.     • good thermostat lousy company
We have owned two of these thermostats for two years. Love the ability to manage the heat or a/c while away from home. In the house, it is quite convenient to change the temperature from a phone or tablet without having to go to the thermostat. The problem is I got a brand new Samsung tablet (a 2017 model) and the app crashes on it. The first call to tech support the guy sounded surprised, took down all the information, i.e. brand, model, os, memory etc. Said he would call back in an hour. No call back. Two days later I called again. New support guy. He said that it is very common problem and that the app doesn't even work on his phone. He knew exactly what I was talking about and suggested I clear the cache every time I use the app. I said I had done that and it still didn't work. He responded with there was nothing that could be done and it was unreasonable to expect the app to run on EVERY android tablet. I reminded him it was a Samsung. He said it didn't matter. Needless to say I was less than impressed. 10/25/20 LUX has pushed out an app update and broke everything. It is so bad that they sent an email to everyone stating they know there is problems and are working on fixing it. I have a list of 10 things you could do before that you cannot do anymore with the app. Top of the list is set the temperature of your thermostat from your phone. Also they eliminated the web portal that made it much quicker to set up and adjust your thermostat. I am now looking at other brands as I am tired of the games LUX plays with theirs. ... show more

    • Finally found what I was looking for!
I have been looking far and wide for a wi-fi thermostat that does not require a c-wire and also doesn't have quirky ways of recharging that seem problematic at times (Nest). This is it! It has a battery onboard that lasts a long time before it needs replacing. A few points: 1. When used in battery mode the unit only pings wi-fi every minute or so instead of being real-time in order to save battery. So instant response isn't there in this mode. 2. Mine happens to be right by an outlet, so i use a spare low voltage phone charger connected to the unit's micro USB port. This keeps the batter from being used and also provides instant access to changes made thru wi-fi. 3. It is black and white display - but i don't care. I never look at it anyway since I operate it thru the phone app. 4. I love the graph shown in the app that tells you how many minutes of each hour the unit is running. I only wish it also told me how many times the unit cycled within each hour. Overall a very nice unit! I'd buy it again. ... show more

    • Absolutely useless!
I bought this because it was advertised as not needing a C-wire. I thought I had struck gold after the horrible experience with Vine's smart thermostat. This was stylish and easy to connect. I couldn't wait to download the app and kiss the days of having to run downstairs to adjust my thermostat, goodbye. And well, quite frankly, it went right on downhill from there! The app could not even find my wifi, yet kept detecting my neighbor's wifi. So bizarre! I have a 2G network and had already uninstalled my VPN app, due to issues I had with Vine's smart thermostat. So there shouldn't have been any problems. So I thought okay, maybe I should restart my modem.....did just that and the same thing. Still couldn't detect my wifi network. I was so annoyed and mad. Then I decided to read the Google Play Store reviews about the app, and boy were the reviews were brutal!!! Apparently, there was some sort of app update last year, rendering the wireless function obsolete. I was stunned! This thermostat should NOT at all be marketed as wifi capable because that's deceptive marketing. Needless to say, I returned it for a refund and purchased the Sensei smart thermostat. The installation, wifi connection and app function for that was smooth and flawless! I almost passed out because I had finally found one that works! Don't throw this much money away for a thermostat that you'll end up using as a manual/non-smart thermostat. You can get a manual thermostat pretty cheap. I feel sorry for those who aren't able to return this for a full refund since they've had it for so long, but make no mistake, they abso-freakin-lutely deserve a refund! This company really should make it their top priority to implement widespread refunds because they're selling lemons and have let their customers down! 4 star deduction for this rubbish, due to deceptive marketing as wifi capable but in actuality, is not. Save yourselves headaches and nightmares and don't buy this junk. Trust me, no matter how hard you try or any steps you take, you won't be able to connect this to your wifi network because it will never find it!
