  • This one requires a neutral
Color: White Size: 1 Pack
I was confused about the two options Lutron offers in their Caséta line for non-dimming switches. There's this one, and the Lutron PD-5WS-DV-WH Caseta Wireless 5 Amp Lighting and 3 Amp Fan RF On/Off Light Switch . This one DOES require a neutral wire be present at the location where the switch is installed. The other one does not require a neutral. When you have a neutral, the switch's own electronics can power themselves readily using the hot and neutral line. This allows the load line to do nothing more than control the load. When you don't have a neutral, the switch must power itself by drawing a trickle of power *through* the load. Depending on the nature of the load this may not be possible, or it may require adding a load resistor or other shenanigans to get it to work. But if your switch location doesn't have a neutral wire, you have no choice other than an expensive trip from an electrician to retrofit your switch location. ... show more

  • True 3-way smart digital switch.
Color: White Size: 1 Pack
Few smart switches can be wired into an existing 3-way circuit allowing the remote switch to be a traditional analog toggle switch. This switch fits the bill. I found the instructions included with the switch to be confusing and my first attempt of wiring this failed. Instead I downloaded an advanced 3-way switch instruction document from Luton's website that covers wiring the entire Caseta line of dimmers and switches in many 3-way configurations. The advantage of this document is that it includes wiring schematics which I found much easier to follow and I was sucessful first time using the schematic. This switch is quite shallow leaving plenty of space behind it in the wall box to stow connectors and wire nuts. Many smart switches or dimmers have bulky electronics making installation a chore, not this switch, it was very easy. Once it is wired and working connecting it to the caseta bridge and then Amazon Alexa is quick and easy. One oddity is that two of the wires are made using un-tinned stranded cable, so you will want to use Wago wire connectors to make a reliable connection from them to solid copper wires found in the house wiring. Most Lutron switches have the cables tinned to make installation into any type of connector easy. Not sure why some of the wires are made this way. The switch comes with a jumper wire. This is used if you retain the remote 3-way analog toggle switch as I did. There is a small reconfiguration of the remote switch wiring that is necessary to make the 3-way operation successful with this Lutron digital switch. ... show more

  • Five Stars
Color: White Size: 1 Pack
I currently own 5 on/off switches and honestly can’t think of one negative thing to say. Everything has been working as advertised. Installation was easy enough, good tip is to SCREW THE FACEPLATE MOUNT TO THE SWITCH BEFORE SCREWING THE SWITCH TO WALL this will make sure everything is flush when installing the faceplate cover. Customer service was helpful too. Integrated W/ Apple HomeKit, Xfinity Security, and Nest Protect flawlessly. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Resetta the Caseta.
Color: Black Size: 1 Pack
Update 2021 01 16: The problems listed below were the result of a bad CAT 5 ethernet cable. I swapped cables and all of those problems went away. Caseta is now one of the more reliable Homekit switches I have. Caseta bridge keeps disconnecting from all devices. Have to keep resetting the Caseta smart bridge to reconnect with devices. All devices continue to function locally and all pico remotes continue to function regardless of smart bridge connection. But once smart bridge disconnects from system the app is unusable which renders any automation inoperative and remote management inoperative. Everytime the smart bridge is reset, the bridge stays disconnected from Apple Homekit. That requires deleting the bridge from the home which also removes all devices that the bridge controls. Then bridge has to be re added to Homekit from scratch along with all devices. I did this several times. With ten switches it's an involved process everytime. Eventually I stopped adding the Caseta bridge to Homekit, but that renders all the automation I created with Homekit inoperative. I also have Hue, Lifx, Ecobee, iDevices, Egato, and Fibaro. All of them have occasional connection issues with Homekit with the exception of the Eve Elgato switch. That always works. The iDevices is also very reliable with rarely any issues. But all of the others come back online at some point except for the Caseta. The Caseta never comes back on it's own and always has to be reset. I travel a lot and that means that all Caseta devices stay off line completely until I can come home and rest the bridge again. And then delete and re-add the bridge and all devices to Homekit. My son calls it "Resetta the Caseta." Hardware quality is very good. Local control works well. Pico remotes work well. ... show more

  • Made better than my house
Color: White Size: 1 Pack
This is my first time using a straight on/off Caseta switch. I've used the basic dimmer and the dimmer that requires a neutral. This switch also requires a neutral. I had installed this switch, including the neutral and flipped the breaker on and the breaker immediately switched off. My wiring connections were fine. I was beginning to wonder if I had a faulty switch. It had turned out that the pigtail attached to the hot (black) had come off in the box. My connection to the pigtail was fine. The pigtail was just done badly and the wire nut was way too small. Yet another crappy job done by my house builders. I put on a larger wire nut and secured it with electrical tape. Once this was done, the switch worked perfectly and I could add it to my existing Caseta network in minutes. I was concerned that the mishap in the electrical box may have affected the switch, but the switch is perfect, just like all of my others. Also, this switch supports three-way switch operation which I am not using. I wasn't expecting to see that in the instructions. ... show more
