My 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee's factory head unit became unusable due to a manufacture's defect with the Uconnect LCD display which is used in many Chrysler,Jeep, Dodge, Fiat vehicles. The screens begin to delaminate due to the glue melting which causes the touchscreen to malfunction and even trigger "ghost touches" which result in A/C turning on in the Winter, Heat turning on in the Summer, emergency service calls, etc. Chrysler/Jeep was aware of the problems but have not yet issued a recall. They gave me a quote of $1200 to replace the unit, but told me to hang on to my receipt in case a recall is issued. No thanks. Rather than replace my defective unit with an identical unit I chose to scrap the whole thing and go with this more modern unit with a bigger display and more features! It is pretty easy to install, comes with a prewired harness that plugs right into the factory harness. My factory backup camera works perfectly, on-screen A/C controls work and I also retain the factory knobs to control the A/C and radio. It fits in perfectly into the dash and looks like the factory head units on the newer vehicles. I mainly use it with the wireless Apple CarPlay but occasionally use some of the apps. downloaded from the Google Playstore. Best of both worlds. Highly recommended. ... show more

    • Great head unit with only a few minor bugs.

First impression are that this was better than expected. All the factory options were retained to include the backup camera and microphone. I did not need to use the external mic and cam that came with this unit. The touch screen is 8 out of 10 responsive. The apps all work great and had no issues using a data Sim to get data working. The AC controls all worked flawlessly, but there is no quick way to turn on the heated steering wheel. It's a couple menus in vs all the other options right on the home screen. With this kit you can choose to relocate your AC controls or keep the factory pocket with USB connections. The trim piece is in two parts, so you can decide which way you want to go. The drawbacks... there are almost no instructions. You really can't mess it up as the plugs are all different sizes. The antenna plug is the white thicker cable, and to use the factory camera you need to connect two of the yellow RCA cables together. One comes from the back of the display and the other is on the connector that goes to the main cable from the car. When relocating the AC controls there are 4 hidden screws in the factory controls. You need to remove all the visible screws and then remove the PCBs with the 3 large knows. It will separate from the black plastic and reveal 4 more screws. You will need to reuse the old screws as well as some of the ones provided. The only really annoying bug is the EQ turns the bass up extremely high and the settings revert everytime you turn the car on or change the car EQ settings. There is a better EQ in the Apps section, but you must fix the car EQ bass first or it will over power everything. Hopefully it will be fixed in an update. ... show more

so my wife's 2018 Grand Cherokee is a higher end trim but even on that the 8.4 inches nowdays is just not enough, so i thought ok let me do this it's an aging car etc, i'm in IT and i do a lot of direct sourcing in China so i was aware of what to expect, as far as broken english here and there, etc. But this thing was ridiculous. The entire system is not intuitive, if your car is a higher trim and has like vented and heated seats etc this thing is terrible to do, also the sound coming out is junk since they have a nice audio system in this trim of a jeep this unit is making everything sound bad, and yes i know how to adjust things and i did adjust things. Anyway this thing is going back. Again, if you have a basic trim Jeep that doesn't have all the fancy stuff this may work well for you but yeah it's a no go for me. ... show more

I'm plagued by the 2018 Grand Cherokee Uconnect radio issues and was looking for a solution and thought I had found it. To start off with the screen shipped fast and looks great. I really wanted this unit because I wanted the factory a/c controls available as a backup i case the touch screen controls failed. Since there were no or very little instructions, it was trial and error to separate the a/c controls from the factory bezel. Reinstallation wasn't as bad, but made me nervous. The rest of the installation was pretty straight forward, you do need to guess on the cable connections. My 1st biggest issue was that no matter what I did the touch screen a/c controls would not function. I could get them to work on the factory controls and they would show up on the touch screen as being adjusted , but the touch screen had no effect whatsoever. My second issue was with the sound quality. It sounds great sitting in your car, but once on the road you need to increase the volume to almost max, which cause the speakers to start to clip in the Jeep. I adjusted the amp settings, sound processing, and bass level gains through he touch screen but it was just never right and eventually would clip. It looks cool and goes have some other random weirdness, but it just wasn't the right fit for my needs. I just wanted to manage other buyers expectation of what to expect with the unit. ... show more
