I’ve been practicing yoga for about 15 years now, and in that time, I’ve cycled through more mats than I can count. Most recently, I was switching between an old, well-loved Lululemon mat and an other no-brand mat. The Lulu was just really worn out, and the other one — was too thin for comfort and way too slippery for my hands. I was constantly readjusting, which, let’s be real, is not what you want when you’re trying to find your flow. If you’re reading this, you know how overwhelming the search for a good yoga mat can be! :) Everything out there is either suspiciously cheap (which makes you wonder how long it’ll actually last) or crazy expensive (and I mean crazy). Where’s the middle ground? On top of that, I recently started Yoga Teacher Training—meaning my practice is leveling up both personally and professionally—so I wasn’t just looking to buy a mat, I wanted to invest in one. And because I care about sustainability, I needed something that was eco-friendly, too. That’s when I stumbled upon a list of the “most eco-conscious yoga mats,” which helped narrow things down. But those lists tend to feature bigger, well-known brands, and I also love to support smaller businesses. That’s when I came across cork yoga mats, and let me tell you—that sent me down another rabbit hole of research. Then I found LunaYena. Their description spoke to me, and i decided to give it a try. And wow—so glad I did! Why I’m Loving This Mat: Unlike some mats that reek of chemicals when you unroll them, this one had just a mild, natural scent that disappeared after a few days of use. I read that cork mats work even better when damp (which is why hot yoga lovers love them), but I don’t practice in high heat. I was a little worried because I don’t sweat that much. But guess what? I haven’t needed to mist it down—my hands and feet feel totally secure! No slipping, but also no weird “sticking” sensation either. I believe, practicing on cork made them feel more connected to the Earth, and I totally get it. There’s something about the texture that feels so organic—way better than that plasticky feel some type mats have. Plus, when my face is near the mat, it actually feels nice instead of like I’m breathing in something synthetic. Speakinng of thickness - this mat is just cushy enough to be kind on my knees, but not so thick that it messes with my balance. No annoying curled-up edges because of heavy rubber base! Sometimes there’s a slight lift at the corners when I first unroll it, but once I’m on the mat, it stays put. The price was a huge selling point for me. At under $70, I figured it was worth a shot. If I didn’t love it, at least I wasn’t out $100+. But honestly? I love this mat, and I’ve been telling everyone about it recently. I wasn’t sure if a 4mm mat would give enough support, but this one proved me wrong. The cork and rubber are really firm and strong, and my knees actually felt more comfortable than on my usual mat (used tpes before). Plus, because the surface is smooth and stable, I found it easier to balance during practice. Also I was concerned cork to be slippery, but it actually gave me a really good grip — much better than I’m used to. As for the smell, there was almost none. Just a faint cork scent, and no strong rubber odor. It’s a little heavier than other mats I’ve owned, but it feels sturdy, not awkward. After weeks of thinking which mat to chose for an upgrade, I’m really glad I went for this one. ... show more

I’ve been using this mat on my wooden floor for nearly a week now, and I have to say—it’s solid when it comes to grip. The cork surface holds firm, keeping me steady in every pose, considering how many times I’ve slipped on those plasticky PVC mats in the past. I tend to sweat quite a bit during practice, and rather than turning into a slippery mess, this mat actually gets grippier the more I sweat—must be something about the cork’s natural texture i guess. Speaking of cork, the quality here is quite good. I’ve tried cork mats before, but they felt more like glorified drink coasters—cracking and falling apart after a week of use. This one, though, is far sturdier and seems built to last. The thickness is good, feeling quite a different, practicing on hard floors. A tiny one thing to note: 1. Mine needed a bit of time to fully flatten out at first—nothing major, but worth keeping in mind. Final thoughts: If you’re after a solid, eco-friendly yoga mat that actually stays put and doesn’t turn into a slip hazard when you break a sweat, this is a fantastic choice.
