I got these Lumist strips because I had used Crest ones previously and noticed no difference in its whitening abilities. Maybe these would work out better, I thought. After using the full treatment of 20 strips, or 10 full-mouth coverings -- these things are rather small, so you will need to use 2 or 3 at a time to have your teeth completely filmed -- and leaving them on for a few hours at a time, I found that I had no gum irritation at all, nor did my teeth change as dramatically as shown in the ad (really, the comparison is horribly Photoshopped). Still, it does seem to have done a better job than the Crest ones, and that zero irritation is a major change too. As for flavor, they taste like strips taste. If you have used strips before, you know the taste: somewhere between bean lard mulch (now with Mint!) and an apostrophe. So, high marks for these Lumist strips for their whitening and no gum irritation, but if they were just a bit bigger and covered like the Crest strips they would be worth another star. These Lumist strips are a bit different from others I have used. I like the way they fit and the fact that they stay in my mouth without my noticing that they are there. I don’t like having to wear them for up to two hours per bleaching episode, though. These strips come ten to a box, one strip to an envelope. They are longer that the usual strips and made of a different material that, once in one’s mouth, conforms to one’s teeth as if forming a kind of mold. Because of the increased length, the Lumist strips cover more teeth. And because there is no difference between the shape of the top and bottom strip, as with other brands, this makes the most difference on the bottom teeth for which other brands provide considerably shorter strips. With those other brands, however, I have pressed their thinner strips into the crevices between teeth so that the sides of my teeth are whitened, as well, but it is not easy to do this with the Lumist strips since they are harder and thicker. The Lumist strips tend to ride along the front surface of the teeth without being as malleable. The Lumist instructions say that one can drink, socialize, exercise while wearing these strips, and I am sure you can. I am not sure, though, that I want to drink liquids while wearing these or any strips; I don’t want to take the chance of swallowing the bleaching agent, even with a straw. But it is true that these strips are not highly noticeable after they are applied and the adhesion remains strong for the duration. However, whereas the best-selling Crest brand bleaching sessions are one-half hour to an hour, Lumist sessions are one to two hours. To me, after an hour, it begins to seem like a long wait. I have had three Lumist bleaching sessions, have removed the strips at the one and half hour mark each time because I didn’t have a full two hours on any of these three consecutive days to wear them. And, frankly, I get impatient and fear having sensitivity. I have seen whitening—perhaps the equivalent of three sessions of bleaching with other popular brands that one wears for less time per session; it is hard to tell exactly, but I believe this is a reasonable comparison. I have used bleaching gels at high concentrations in the past and had resultant dental pain. I am always cautious with new bleaching products because of this. I have been pleasantly surprised to have absolutely no pain from the whitening with Lumist so far.

I’ve used whitening strips of all kinds. This one is tricky. There are 5 strips. One strip in each pack. Are we supposed to open 2 packs for an application? Are we supposed to cut them in half? They stretch so I’m doing that today. They want you to wear it for an hour or two??? Yikes it’s starting to sting and it’s only been 10 minutes. These are questionable and I would not buy them again.

The Lumist Advanced Teeth Whitening Strips arrived in a set of two white and blue boxes sealed in plastic. Inside each safety sealed box were 10 sealed trays that each contain one translucent strip that is ~2-3/4" L x 3/4" W. Assuming you treat both upper and lower front teeth only, 10 strips would provide five daily treatments, the maximum recommended course. Thus, two boxes containing 20 strips provide two five-day treatment courses. The Lumist whitening strips are simple to use. Remove a strip from its tray and remove the two plastic covers over the medicated side of the strip and apply the medicated side of the strip to the upper set of teeth, trying to avoid covering the gums. Once firmly pressed in place on the teeth, you fold the strip under to cover the back sides of the teeth and press into place. You then repeat the process for the lower teeth. The strips stayed nicely in place during treatment, although I did not like having the strips in my mouth during the two hours of wear time. Each strip is covered with a thin layer of 20% carbamide peroxide gel, the active bleaching agent. The instructions clearly state that the strips will only bleach natural teeth. They are not effective on crowns, veneers, etc. In my case, one strip covers about seven teeth, and I treated only the front and adjacent teeth because of crowns on my molars. Since the average adult has 32 teeth, you may need two upper strips and two lower strips per treatment if you have all natural teeth. Therefore, you would need to use both boxes for a five-day treatment. You may drink cold beverages while using the strips. I found the Lumist whitening strips to be odorless and tasteless, despite the ad saying they have a mint flavor. The boxes I received in April 2024 have a December 2025 expiration date. They should be stored in the refrigerator until ready for use. The manufacturer, based in Utah, provides a 90-day money back guarantee. I experienced no tooth or gum sensitivity or irritation. While the first treatment did not result in much whitening, by the second and third treatments, there was noticeable improvement. I award the Lumist Advanced Teeth Whitening Strips 4 stars.

You definitely will not get the results that you get when your dentist whitens your teeth. This product made my teeth a shade lighter until I ate something. Then my teeth were the shade I started with.
