This mattress topper was one of the best investments of my life! After hip replacement a year ago, my lower back/knee/ankle/foot muscles on that side were always acting up, especially in the morning. After the second night, all muscle aches were GONE! Sleeping well and pain-free has changed my energy - I'm able to exercise again and moving gracefully! Truly life changing. I will say, though....don't be surprised; it's not quite a full 4". The support pad is 2" and the fluffy topper adds another inch. I did let it rest for 48 hours before I slept on it, but I don't really think that's necessary. There is no smell and the fluffy pad is absolutely decadent...it's like sleeping t a 5 star hotel! :) Also, I'm a VERY hot sleeper and the whole situation is keeping me completely cool. I bought this to put over my new memory foam mattress. I was getting pain from some pressure points, but didn't want to return mattress. This topper definitely helped although it is not quite as thick as I would like. Overall, it helps my mattress to be much more comfortable.

My son in an older dorm only used for overflow. We were warned the mattresses were uncomfortable. They were the dark blue 5” thick vinyl ones summer camps had in the 1980’s. This mattress pad made his mattress very comfortable. It had 2 parts and very deep pockets and was perfect.

This topper is an answer to my prayers. I'm 73 and the old joints are giving me lots of problems especially the pain and sleepless nights. We put the topper on the bed yesterday and this morning my husband had to shake me to wake me and he's says I was worried, and are you ever going to get up? I originally purchased the medium "LUCID 10 Inch Gel Memory Foam Mattress" by itself and found it to be just a little too firm for my tastes. I'm 25yr old man and 170lbs, I don't think I'm obese or anything, but I found I wanted a little more "give" from the mattress. It just felt way too flat. In hindsight I should've just purchased the medium-plush version of the mattress. After a couple weeks, and constant searching on Amazon, I decided this "Lucid Foam Mattress Topper Combo" would be the most comfortable solution! It would keep the gel topper in place, which I've heard can be an annoying problem, and offer me extra comfort through the cotton mattress pad. It would be the best of both worlds, in ultimate comfort. Boy was I wrong. Well, sort of. I found that having both was indeed very comfortable, almost a new mattress really. It had a nice give to it and felt like being hugged by a blanket. However, I discovered just that. Being hugged by a cotton blanket is very hot. It's been almost a month now and I've been waking up sweating eveyday, it's just too hot and not worth the extra "give". I live in Colorado, it's summer now, and it's just too much. This is coming from a dude who grew up in gross swampy Florida. Anyway, I'm going to remove the cotton mattress pad, contact the company, and replace it with a normal fitted sheet and use just the gel topper. I'll keep you updated on that. I think that's a better solution, unless you live in Antartica or Alaska or something and want the extra warmth. (Plus using the cotton pad gives your mattress those weird checkered marks on your bed). Anyway, hope that helps! ... show more

UPDATE 4.5 MONTHS LATER: Still in love. PERFECT amount of support and cushion, does not get hot whatsoever, and the pillowtop has been easy to wash and dry in a regular washer/dryer setup. It has held its shape really well also. Love it. --- Ok, so it's only been one night, but this thing is a dream. It is a miracle. I am still saving up to afford a new mattress, and as I need someone to deliver, haul out the old, AND it's a Cal King, I just haven't been able to swing all the expenses. This is the stopgap I so desperately needed. I think this will extend the life of my mattress for a while but will update my review if or when this thing goes bad. But last night was some of the best sleep I've had outside of a hotel room in YEARS. I used the pillowtop on top of the foam, and it did NOT get hot at all, and it is HOT where I live right now. I was very, very worried about this because I'm a hot sleeper. Like, fans on, kick the blankets off, night sweats hot sleeper. I did buy a "cooling technology" sheet set, so that may have helped, but honestly they felt like any other sheets. Trust me when I say if you use the pillowtop it isn't a heat sink. I do think if you use just the foam that that will get hot, though. It was very easy to unroll and position on my bed. The foam dimensions aren't exact, but it's close enough and it made zero difference anyway. The pillowtop easily extended over the corners and stayed on perfectly. I did not notice any smell at all. Do be aware that while you let this reconstitute for the 2 days it says to, if you have entitled cats, they might find the foam REALLY appealing to sharpen claws on (ask me how I know...), so I'd advise you try to keep them out of the space until you've fully made your bed.
