Description

“Compulsively readable.”—JULIE SOTO, 1 New York Times bestselling author on Love Sick Friendship like this should come with a warning label... Asher Foley is an imposter—at least, that’s how it feels. The letters “MD” after his name should mean he’s confident, respected, put-together. Instead, he still feels like the class clown pretending to be a grown-up doctor. Jocelyn Maddox is a paradox—warm, fearless, but utterly closed off. She’s lost too much already—family, love, home—and she’s not about to gamble her heart again. As an anesthesiologist, she’ll fix everyone else’s pain and refuses to feel her own. It makes Asher, her flirty best friend-slash-work husband, perfectly safe. Right? When a surgical complication forces Asher to drop the mask and show her the man underneath, Jocelyn sees more than the jokes and easy smiles. She sees him. And suddenly, the walls she’s built to survive begin to crack—one look, one laugh, one heartbeat at a time. “Heartfelt and smart, Love Sick is just what the doctor ordered.”—Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund- Broka, authors of The Breakup Tour Grey’s Anatomy meets The Love Hypothesis in this delicious, laugh out loud rom-com set in the world of a tight-knit group of OB-GYN residents—written by a practicing physician. • Great best friends to lovers medical romance
Format: Kindle
Love and Other Side Effects is the story of two best friends who work together and secretly have feelings for each other. Asher and Jocelyn are both young doctors who are passionate about their careers and have a blast together, no matter where they are. Both are catching feelings, but Jocelyn (Joss) has sworn off all relationships after losing many loved ones in the past. I absolutely loved this book! I read this book in one sitting - I truly could not put it down. First, the in-depth medical knowledge was really interesting and gave the characters more dimension. Our hero and heroine are both such wonderful, flawed human beings. I felt really connected to them and their challenges, both his self-doubt and her past trauma. Asher and Joss complement each other in many ways. The dual POV shows the reader his soft and sensitive side, and Joss’ more matter-of-fact nature. The banter, chemistry and yearning between them was soooooo deliciously good. It took her a while, but I was glad to see Joss open up to her friends and her colleagues. It is always rewarding to watch characters transform in a novel, and I was really invested in both Joss’ and Asher’s stories. I loved these characters’ friends, family and the hospital staff too (except Dr White). This book is steamy, emotional, funny, and compelling - I enjoyed every page! Thank you to Deidra Duncan, Canary Street Press/MIRA Books, Harlequin Trade Publishing, and NetGalley for this book. All opinions are my own. ... show more

Love and Other Side Effects is a sweet and emotional friends to lovers romance that leans into PTSD and insecurity. This story follows besties Asher Foley, an OB/GYN and Jocelyn Mattox, aka Joss, an anesthesiologist. The standout in the book was the amazing friendship Asher and Joss had formed in just three years. I loved the way they showed up for each other, despite both their reticence of divulging their deep rooted traumas and insecurities. Jocelyn was feisty and fun, and really in her own head. Her PTSD had her seeking out one-night stands and held her back from forming close relationships, but Asher snuck up on her like a ninja. I loved Asher so much! He was such a cinnamon roll and my heart hurt for him as he struggled with his insecurities and feeling like he wasn't good enough. He was loved by his colleagues and patients, but sometimes just couldn't get past the one negative comment. Joss was great at stopping his thoughts from spiraling too much. Love and Other Side Effects was a funny and sweet romance. There were many heartfelt moments that showed the MCs growth and evolving relationship. I loved seeing Asher and Joss finally get off the denial train and come together. ... show more

  • a delightful medical romance
Format: Kindle
4.5 stars rounded up - a great read for those who grew up loving Scrubs and/or Grey’s Anatomy. In Duncan’s second book in her standalone interconnected series, she created a delightful love story full of banter, yearning, and all the heart. I adored the friends to lover trope, as both Asher and Joss struggle to acknowledge, hide, and ultimately come to terms with their feelings. I also loved their individual growth - Asher coping with an inferiority complex, Joss drowning in grief, especially as her crutches start to crumble. Last, but not least, I also appreciated Duncan’s humor and writing style. Everything from the jokes and the one-off-references (e.g., How to Train a Dragon) to the dialog (which actually felt believable). There were several instances the pacing confused me, making me pause and have to figure out if I was missing something. But I was happy to over look it given my enjoyment in everything else. Ultimately, this is the happily ever after I wanted so badly for Asher. I’m glad he got it, even if it was heartbreaking (for him and readers) to get there! ... show more

  • Friends to lovers!
Format: Kindle
Asher and Joss are best friends and doctors who work together and very much involved in each other’s lives. Just not romantically, at all! Asher is the dream boyfriend: funny, attractive with a great job and a pool! He’s just having issues with anyone taking him seriously. Joss is almost his opposite, she isn’t looking for commitment and doesn’t care about your opinion on the matter either. But one night Asher opens up about his insecurities and opens up Joss’s locked up heart. I really enjoyed both characters and how they seemed to be opposites of each other but got on incredibly well. I really felt for Joss and could understand her issues because of her traumatic past but there were times it became incredibly frustrating! My heart did break a little for Asher and how little he felt like he was valued at work and with Joss. This is a funny and sweet romance that does have unexpected depth. Both Asher and Joss go through experiences that change them and make them more prepared for their relationship. ... show more
