I'm not sure what other products exist in the marketplace but if this represents the current standards in the attic ladder industry I'm not very impressed. This was easy enough to install and is working as advertised but I have serious doubts that this product will last over the long haul. Louisville Ladder uses extremely thin and weak materials to produce this item. I was shocked to see the main cover made of press board instead of plywood. It even hasd a tear in it on arrival with no damage to the box. One of the ladder feet was also bent and again there was no exterior box damage. As I said it is functioning properly, but I may re-visit this review some months from now after it has been used many times.

Relatively easy to install. Great instructions. Sturdy. The first ladder was damaged in shipment. But Louisville immediately shipped a replacement. Excellent customer service at the factory. Excellent.

It is a good ladder for the price. It's strong enough. And good adjustments for height, you will need a metal saw though(hacksaw). It came with the very cheap cardboard cover broken. We are drilling out the rivets and replacing the very cheap cardboard top with beadboard. The frame and ladder are made well for the price just beware of the always broken top.

Bought this for my grandfather and helped him install it over the holidays. We’re making the area above his garage a storage area so he can get rid of his storage unit. It was really easy to install. Remember to stop by your local hardware store and pickup some matching lumber for reinforcement as well as a few brackets and Lag Bolts. We used two scrap pieces of wood to hold the ladder in place while we secured it to the rafters. Make sure your rafters can support the added weight (should be 2x10s or 2x12s)anything smaller wasn’t intended for anything other than holding drywall. I feel confident using this ladder unlike some of the wooden ones I’ve used no wobble very sturdy.

What an excellent product! Exactly as described easy to install, everything is included, very stable, very sturdy and durable! Love the product. I gave the rating a 3 but it should be a 5 because of the terrible packaging. The packaging is a a cardboard box that hugs the product pretty tightly. When it arrived it appeared it had had a fairly rough transit by the time I received it. The box had two or three holes in it, the ceiling facing piece had some cracks, and one of the gas struts had come out of its socket. Ugh! I definitely didn't want to send it back because I waited several weeks for this one. So, I decided to accept the cracked board, it isn't all that bad, see pics. However, the gas strut was a whole different matter. These are not user serviceable in any way and I know I shouldn't have tried compressing it but I did. I spent some time Googling and decided to wrap the strut in a ratchet strap and operate the ratchet in order to compress it. I was pretty leery about this but it worked like a champ. This set back my install a couple hours, a couple nerve wracking hours. The point of that story is that none of these problems would have happened with better packaging. So, hopefully the manufacturer sees this and adds a bit of padding.

We’ve been living in our house for over 20 years, why I hadn’t decided (probably because I have 6+ ladders) to do this earlier baffles me. Anyway it is in, and operable. Load capacity of over 300#, heavy duty aluminum stairs, but not heavy. It feels planted when going up or down. This was installed in our garage, the slope of the floor was not an issue. There is enough adjustment in the last rung to about get it perfect-planted feet and no twisting. It has a small hand rail for safety. A quality product and worth every dollar. Cheaper than a ER visit. I hope this helps.
