In short, this fully metal boom and stand are excellent and highly recommended, including for audio recording -- including with heavy microphones. I'm currently engaged in recording a large grand piano with some heavy microphones and heavy cables. I couldn't find a reasonably-priced microphone boom long enough to reach from the front (arched side) of the piano across to the bass strings with enough boom left over behind the fulcrum (the boom clamp to the tripod) to accommodate a counterweight adequate in position and weight to safely balance the bass microphone. Having some background in photography, I had seen that robust photography tripods and long booms exist that might work, so I chose the one I'm reviewing here (highly rated on Amazon, as you can see). I was extremely pleased to find that this will work perfectly for my need, and am considering purchasing another one for other recording configurations (even though, in my current configuration, I don't need a long boom to reach the treble microphone from the arch side of the piano). There are two things I would request the manufacturer to consider. The first would be to make the stud on the tripod removable, with (a) the tripod having a standard photography 3/8"-16 male thread (which would make the tripod usable for other photo and audio purposes as well) and (b) the stud accordingly having a standard photography 3/8"-16 female thread (which would allow the boom to be used on shorter photography tripods, which I have and may need for recording because the Lomtap tripod's minimum height is likely too high for my current recording configuration). Incidentally, I found that a "Manfrotto Mounting Adapter, 3/8" Female Thread to 5/8" Male Stud Adapter, 50.8mm Long (#186)" works very well to attach the Lomtap boom clamp to my photography tripods, but I would have preferred to use the longer stud that came with the Lomtap tripod. The second thing is that I would have been glad to purchase two shorter boom rods from Lomtap of the same design as the one that came with the tripod (15mm with 3/8" male threads on one end and 1/4" male threads on the other end), ideally about 2/3 and 1/2 the length of the included rod (which is 50.5" long, so I would have also purchased ones approximately 35" and 25" long, and perhaps even a 3/4 length one, which would have been approximately 40"). Unfortunately I could not find any 15mm diameter rods of these lengths by any other manufacturers, the longest of which was 16 inches (threaded, so I could connect more than one, but I would prefer a single rod to avoid any risk of joint failure, which could damage the microphone -- or other potentially expensive equipment -- mounted on the rod). Notwithstanding these additional product requests, I enthusiastically recommend this boom/tripod and am considering purchase another. Best regards, Tom

It's okay for a light or inexpensive equipment but the arms aren't holding as much weight as $170 stands and require counter balance. It's a bit lame but I accept it for the price. Still miles better than a $30 light stand. That's why I still leave a 5 star review.

I could not believe how good this value was😯 For the price I did not expect the quality to be this good, but it literally blew myind how solid this thing is! As my first purchase of a C stand I did a lot of research before pulling the trigger on this one. I do not regret it one bit😁

Stable base and the size allows for easy travel. A case is also included. It can be a bit hefty for those who don’t strength train however I was very impressed with the functionality and stability when mounting a dual-powered AD200 flash setup to the stand.
