  • I wanted to like it so bad
Size: Full Size Style: Tactile (quiet typing) Pattern Name: Keyboard
I absolutely love the feel of this keyboard. Typing on these keys is a great feeling. I love the switches and the mechanical feedback from the keys. The quality of the materials is fantastic. I was ready to buy this keyboard as Christmas gifts for all of my grown children. Once the honeymoon period was over and I used it for a few weeks - the realization that it just wasn't working for me finally sunk in. I'm an accountant and spend a lot of time on the num pad. I was getting lots of mis-keys on this board. It is a full-sized keyboard but Logi clearly tried to pack more keys into the space and tried keep it compact. I don't know if the spacing is just tigher than normal but one thing that is very different is the 2nd row of keys above the normal number-pad. I'm not used to having keys on top of the minus, divide, and multiply keys and I kept hitting the keys on top without intending to. It wasn't getting any better after a few weeks either. I need empty space over those keys. And they put some critical keys up there too - like the computer-lock key and the num-lock key . So when you hit those by accident - it really throws you off and stops whatever work you're doing until you get it all straightened out again. In the end - it was just too disruptive. I would have preferred a bigger board with the key spacing I'm more accustomed to as I use the keyboard all day every workday. Because I like the feel of the keys so much I've switched to the Logi G915 gaming keyboard and it's almost perfect for what I need. I don't really need the G-keys to the left but at least they aren't in the way and don't bother me. It has the same key switches that the MX keyboards have too - so I get the great feel that I want. I'm bummed that I had to depart the MX line for my office to get a layout I could work with. But I'm real happy with the G915. I now have the MX Master 3s mouse with the gaming keyboard on my desk. It works. I gave the MX keyboard to a co-worker that isn't as intense on on the num-pad as I am and she loves it. So this may just be me. But that's my review. Great keyboard - it just didn't work for me. ... show more

  • Keyboard is well made and a joy to type on.
Size: Full Size Style: Tactile (quiet typing) Pattern Name: Keyboard
Summary: Keyboard is well made and a joy to type on. Logi Options+ software lacks certain basic yet critical features. Pros: For the brown switch variant, the tactile bump is at the top, which I like a lot. The switches are lubricated. The layout where the function row is line with the number row, I like a lot, it's beautiful and intuitive. The keyboard is actually pretty quiet to type on (brown switches), even when bottoming out the presses. I was surprised because all the other mechanical keyboards I've used have been annoyingly loud. Cons: The keyboard is missing print screen, scroll lock, and pause break keys. In its place are three "easy-switch" keys to pair the keyboard with up to three different devices. The software provides a way to customize the keymapping, yet somehow they forgot to provide a way to add shortcuts for print screen, scroll lock, and pause break keys. Although the software lets you use your keyboard to type in any arbitrary key to assign as a shortcut, what do you do if the key that you want to assign isn't physically on the keyboard? Don't they know that their keyboard is missing these keys? Do I need to plug in another keyboard that has these keys just to assign them as shortcuts? There are three "easy-switch" keys on the keyboard itself, and the keyboard has an onboard memory that remembers which device pairs to which slot. Out of the box, all of the slots are empty. Once you pair a device to an "easy-switch" slot, it's basically permanent, and although you can overwrite that slot by pairing a new device to it, you won't ever be able to set that slot to an empty state again, which I abhor. You can try use the Logi Options+ software to reset the keyboard to factory settings, but it won't set those slots to empty, so that means that it doesn't actually reset the keyboard to factory settings. The software also doesn't let you change the order of the slots. If you assign your devices to the slots and then decide later on that you want to change the order, good luck, it's not impossible to do but it's definitely not intuitive and is more difficult than it needs to be. There's no slot in the keyboard to store the wireless USB dongle. For the brown switches, the tactile bump is barely noticeable, which I don't like very much, because it's like why even put a bump if it's barely going to feel like anything, might as well be a linear switch. My laptop's membrane keyboard with it's 1.2mm key travel feels way more tactile than this. However, in spite of that, the keyboard actually feels very nice to type on. Possible Con: The keycaps are molded out of transparent plastic, and the top side of the caps are coated (looks like it was sprayed on) with a thin layer of matte paint (or something) with the letter masked out so the backlight can shine through. Although the paint seems durable, I can't testify about the longevity of it yet since I haven't had the keyboard for very long. But in my experience, keycaps of this design have a limited life before the paint chips off and the keyboard goes from beautiful to eyesore. ... show more
