This umbrella works by two strings in the handle pulling the head down and folding it. When you press the button in the handle, the strings get released and the head flies up and expands. If you fold it with your hands and push it down without holding that button, the strings don't retract and instead get folded up and stuck in the handle. Easy to avoid. It's not bad for what it costs. I just needed something to keep in my truck. It opens easily, but closing it is another thing. Not the easiest. Can't figure out why there is a down button😄 whatever since it isn't top of the line, just an extra one to keep in emergencies.

The colors are so vivid and eye catching! It also opens very easily and quickly - so much so the first time you open it, it catches you off guard. It isn't as easy to close - the button works well agin to close it, but to gather the material so you can bring the strap around is a bit more difficult. I really like this, but if you have arthritis or weak arms, it might not be the umbrella for you. It’s very easy to open (powerful), but very hard to close. Also: the first time I tried to carry it by the cord, the cord just fell out. I drilled a second hole and threaded the cord through both holes with a tapestry needle, then sewed it up.
