  • With this, it didn't feel like it was 98° outside.
Color: Camouflage 3
Used this out at the lake last weekend and was very pleased with it. Its easier to install on land, tho I managed it on the water. Has tent like poles in segments that bungee together kinda and it's easiest if you start from one end and follow it around. Fits in rod holders of my teton kayak no problem and when strapped down covers most of my body from the sun depending on direction. Super light weight but doesn't allow sun to pass through it. Great for a leisurely paddle in tx water. ... show more

  • Great product for the price
Color: Orange
I shopped around a bit prior to making this purchase. Other brands were cost prohibitive, at least in my own opinion, given the functionality of this product. It’s nice to keep the sun from beating down on you all day in a kayak, but lots of people get by with a hat and sunscreen, so it isn’t a necessity so much as a luxury. That said, I like it quite a lot. It’s a little difficult to take apart and stow back in the bag provided, because a few of the poles have a slight curvature at the end and also because the elastic tends to pull the pieces back together while you work on a different section. I wouldn’t try to disassemble it on the water, although you probably wouldn’t be tempted to do so unless caught in a nasty headwind, in which case the screen creates drag, forcing you to work harder. You need to have the type of boat with fishing rod holders behind the seating area, since this is where the ends of the poles fit. Otherwise, I would assume some modification would be in order, either to the product or to the boat itself. Everything considered, I paddled around all day in the sun without getting burned to a crisp. When the wind picked up, I removed it. I think I’ll appreciate having it as a part of my kayaking accessories kit, for bright sunny days on calm waters. ... show more

  • Doesn’t work without modification
Color: Z-Mount Base
Bought this to install a canopy on my fishing kayak, as I planned to use the rod holders for fishing poles rather than the canopy poles. There’s no directions whatsoever but it’s not super hard to figure out. Only problem is the incredibly cheap parts. The biggest problem is that the base and piece that holds the canopy pole is entirely made of plastic, including the threads that hold the two screw ends together. The canopy naturally sits at an angle and will pop the base and holder pieces apart, no matter how tight you try to get them. The canopy holder also only has like 3-4 threads to screw to the base, which doesn’t help. You can only tighten them to a certain point before the threads slip and begin to strip out. While I liked the idea of this, it’s way too cheap of a design. The bolt that tightens around the canopy pole is practically useless since you can’t tighten the two pieces enough. There is a small hole that also goes through the base that attaches to the kayak, and I plan on just drilling the hole one size bigger so that the canopy pole fits into it. Can‘t really return it since the holes are already drilled in my kayak. If you’re handy and have time to mess with the design to get it to work, I’d buy this as a last resort. Otherwise, steer clear and find literally any other mount. This isn’t worth $18 at all, I could’ve rigged something up from the hardware store for less if I knew how cheap the pieces were. ... show more

  • It works as described
Color: Orange
With the shade in place, it makes it much more difficult to get into or out of the kayak. It also becomes a sail on windier days.

  • Shade cover does not come with mounting hardware.
Color: Camouflage 3
Okay the cover itself was fine it's going to work out perfectly, however not supplying mounting hardware for the metal for the aluminum frame for anyone else who doesn't have the problem solving skills that I have this wood stump them greatly. I was able to install wood two by four blocks inside the boat itself using adhesive to the bottom of the inside of the hall and a large Fender washer drilled out at 1/2 inch on the top to secure the wood block on the exterior of my kayak then sleeving half inch OD and 5/16 ID or inside Dimension to receive your quarter inch shade cover tubing what's how I solve my problem without adding inside the boat itself using adhesive to the bottom of the inside of the hole and a large fender washer drilled out at 1/2 inch on the top to secure the wood block on the exterior of my kayak then leaving half-inch OD and 5/16 ID or inside dimension to receive your quarter inch shade cover tubing was how I saw my problem without adding more than a half a pound of added weight. ... show more

  • Floppy, flimsy, and not great.
Color: Light Blue
For the money it's kind of meh. The device is generally easy to "install" once you put the non included mounting posts on. That part is pretty much a guessing game for where you want them. Once installed the covering is a bit too tall and flimsy. As the kayak shifts so goes the canopy. It's also not really wide enough to provide much cover for anything unless you only go out around noon and travel east/west. Overall it is what it is, I can't come up with a better design so we're left with what is out there.... ... show more
