Description

The design of my story is about living with Osteogenesis Imperfecta, also called brittle bone disease. While it is part of who I am, O.I. does not define who I am. I have lived a full life with many adventures. My fractures were like speed bumps. They just slow me down, but do not stop me. I am usually full throttle ahead after I pass the speed bump. We all have empty spaces in our lives that need to be filled by other people. We are incomplete without each other. I invite you to read my story as a story that is not complete until you color in the empty spaces that you find. I hope you enjoy the spaces that I have colored. Read more

  • Inspiring Story!
When life gave her lemons in the form of brittle bone disease, Mary Encinias turned them into lemon meringue pie! She insisted on living a life of adventure, service and fulfillment despite her very real physical challenges. This memoir chronicles Mary’s ups and downs with frankness and a lack of self pity. Her plucky and inspiring personality leap from the pages of this book. I highly recommend it. Sent from my iPhone ... show more

  • A true demonstration of the strength of spirit, courage and sense of humor.
The author has established herself as a heroine of her life story. In the beginning of the book, I expected it to focus on the suffering that accompanies brittle bone disease, but, instead Mary was feisty and determined from a young age to embrace life. For example, she was highly insulted when her mother asks if she’d like to go to a camp for “crippled children.” With her bubbly personality, she made many friends from all walks of life, but she was sad that true love eluded her until she met Mr. Right. Her heart for service is God-inspired and she writes about it as naturally as breathing. Her spirit of adventure earned my admiration and respect and reminded me of a time when teenagers traveled across this country (and others) and were safe and welcomed by strangers. If I could describe Mary in one word, I would choose “undaunted.” Though fatherless from an early age, she had/has a remarkable extended family and network of friends who had/have her back. Those sparkly blue eyes don’t hurt anything either. I look forward to reading it again. ... show more
