Description

Rock stars and rap gods. Comedy legends and A-list actors. Supermodels and centerfolds. Moguls and mobsters. A president. Over his unrivaled four-decade career in radio, Howard Stern has interviewed thousands of personalities—discussing sex, relationships, money, fame, spirituality, and success with the boldest of bold-faced names. But which interviews are his favorites? It’s one of the questions he gets asked most frequently. Howard Stern Comes Again delivers his answer. This book is a feast of conversation and more, as between the lines Stern offers his definitive autobiography—a magnum opus of confession and personal exploration. Tracy Morgan opens up about his near-fatal car crash. Lady Gaga divulges her history with cocaine. Madonna reminisces on her relationship with Tupac Shakur. Bill Murray waxes philosophical on the purpose of life. Jerry Seinfeld offers a master class on comedy. Harvey Weinstein denies the existence of the so-called casting couch. An impressive array of creative visionaries weigh in on what Stern calls “the climb”—the stories of how they struggled and eventually prevailed. As he writes in the introduction, “If you’re having trouble finding motivation in life and you’re looking for that extra kick in the ass, you will find it in these pages.” Interspersed throughout are rare selections from the Howard Stern Show archives with Donald Trump that depict his own climb: transforming from Manhattan tabloid fixture to reality TV star to president of the United States. Stern also tells of his Moby Dick-like quest to land an interview with Hillary Clinton in the run-up to the 2016 election—one of many newly written revelations from the author. He speaks with extraordinary candor about a variety of subjects, including his overwhelming insecurity early in his career, his revolutionary move from terrestrial radio to SiriusXM, and his belief in the power of psychotherapy. As Stern insightfully notes in the introduction: “The interviews collected here represent my best work and show my personal evolution. But they don’t just show my evolution. Gathered together like this, they show the evolution of popular culture over the past quarter century.” Read more

  • Very Different Perspective on Howard Stern
I have read the other two books by Stern and see that he has definitely turned into a different professional person. I thoroughly enjoyed the ilnterviews that he did and see how he has grown. The interviews were very interesting and shows he did his research and shocked the interviewees what he had found. Fantastic book!!!!! ... show more

  • The best interviewer in America puts it in a book
I wasn’t always a Howard Stern fan. He started to establish his fame on NY radio, and I heard bits and pieces of his shtick and thought not much of his antics. During the ‘90s, I did a 180 and began being a loyal listener of his morning show and watching him on E! I loved his book “Private Parts”, and even more the very underrated and well-made film that followed. I loved his nonsense with his cast of characters, like millions of others. One of the things I admired was that is radio persons was a “character”, but in his real life, he was a loyal husband and father, which I admired. When I heard of his marriage ending, I initially came to the conclusion that I had been. “Had” and he was more like his radio character after all. Time has revealed much, including that his personal life went a certain way, but he wasn’t disingenuous. He was trying to find himself and real contentment. As he left terrestrial radio and moved to Sirius, I became a subscriber because of him...but his show changed as he changed, relying much less on his old routines, and somewhat gradually and without me really noticing as it was happening, Howard Stern had become one of the greatest interviewers in history. Without the construction of broadcast time limits and content rules, and reflecting his own inner growth as a person, his insightful and provocative way of interviewing notable people from many areas of (for lack of a better word) “entertainment” has developed into something remarkable. He is able to make his interviewees open up and be more honest about themselves and their thoughts than one would think possible. This book contains wonderful excerpts from many of his best radio interviews and is a very quick read, which I’ve already read twice in full and even more returns for brief peeks at individual pieces here and there. If you are a Stern loyalist, you likely already have this book. If you are one who never took him seriously or even trashed him based on reputation vs. truth, test a sample. You’ll be amazed how fascinating this book is, not only as a reflection of Stern’s gifted ability to ask provocative questions but the candor of his interview subjects is refreshingly honest and impressive. ... show more

  • Stern At His Very Best
A bit of history. I used to really be into Stern. I loved his terrestrial radio show and read his first two books. Enjoyed it all. When he went to satellite, I did not follow because I felt I was growing beyond what he was doing. Many years later I got a trial to Sirius and caught his show. I forget who he was interviewing, but the interview was great and I realized: Stern evolved. I became a subscriber to Sirius because of him, and when I heard this book was coming out, I got excited. I even tweeted something to him, which one of his crew promptly tore into me for because they thought me saying Stern had always influenced my interview style was just me trying to ride his coattails. Then I started reading bad reviews of the book ... which all seemed to be from people like the cast member who tried to put me in my place. They were pissed that Stern had evolved and they had not. It was sad, honestly. I got the book and loved it. Yes, these are interviews you may have heard before, but they are the best of the best, with introductions from Stern that are quite personal and honest. It gives context as to why the interviews he chose were included, and it paints the picture of a man who is trying to do more with his power. His cast members who are stuck in the old world are much like those fans in the same place. Stern realized he had to progress, and so he did. This book is proof. This is the book for people who say they hate Stern. Read a handful of the interviews presented, and you'll see what you've been missing. Sure, the goofy humor is still there, but these interviews are as good as they get. And if you think Stern sold out, so be it. He's not going to change your mind and I don't think he's interested in doing so. This book exemplifies what he is proud of, and if, as a "fan," you can't handle that ... well, it really says more about you. ... show more
