  • Little Tikes hit a home run with this cash register
I purchased this cash register for my one year old daughter for Christmas and she absolutely loves it! She will literally play with it for hours. I love that the toy is so small and simple and yet so interactive. You can put the coins in the slots, put the coins in the top and they slide down the back into the coin return, push the top to see the numbers spin, pull the red lever to open the cash register door and slide the credit card to see all of the coins drop down into the drawer. We haven't had any problems with the coins sticking in the coin return as other reviewers have mentioned - maybe Little Tikes fixed this problem? This toy isn't electronic at all, which I LOVE! No batteries, no noises, and still TONS of fun! I love the educational aspect as well - I can practice counting the coins with my daughter and sorting them by shape and size. She is also learning cause and effect by playing with this toy. The purple and orange coins are quite small and can completely fit inside my daughter's mouth. I do see that they have made holes in the coins that are probably for that exact reason - so that they can't obstruct a child's airway. However, the size of the coins at this point still make me nervous, so this is a with Mommy supervision toy! I also love that it is a great size - not too big to take up a ton of space, but not too small that it's not fun. We have a couple of different cash registers - some that are even far more "fancy" and expensive than this one - but this is by far my favorite! ... show more

  • Buy this and you will be able to shower in peace
18 month olds have the attention span of a somewhat retarded gnat. So the holy grail for the mother of a toddler is a toy that said toddler will actually play with for longer than a split second and one that a toddler will play with repeatedly. This toy fits the bill. This toy requires a sum total of zero batteries and sings a grand total of zero annoying songs. That right there is enough to earn it a place in my heart. So, what does it do? It comes with coins in three colors - yellow, purple and orange - and these coins are of varying sizes and thickness. Each coin will only fit into one of the three round holes cut into the face of the toy. Coins dropped into one of the three coloured slots accumulate in the 'slide' of the appropriate colour. You need to slide one of the rectangular 'cards' through a 'credit card reader' to make the accumulated coins drop into the drawer. The red handle at the side must be pulled down to open the drawer with a most satisfying 'kaching' sound. Rinse and repeat. There is also a little slot on the top. Coins dropped into this slot make their way to the little bowl on the side. When the yellow rectangle on the top is pressed, the pictures in its display window change. This last feature does not interest my child at all. My daughter learned how to open the drawer pretty quickly. It took her over a week to figure out how the credit card works. She drops coins and assorted other items into the slot at the top. These assorted items sometimes get wedged in there and I have to force them out while she squeals frantically, as if she had nothing to do with causing the problem in the first place. The toy is well loved as evidenced by the fact that the coins show up in the oddest places (she frequently walks about with one of them clutched in her hand) and we are perpetually in danger of stepping on a coin and landing unceremoniously on our butts. This is a price I gladly pay for all the entertainment this toy has afforded my child. ... show more

  • Great play-value toy
I bought this as a birthday gift for a friend's 2-year old, and gave it to him while we were over for a play-date with our kids. All four boys - ages 11m, 2, 3, and 4, played with it for about 40 minutes. And, it's a toy they all look for anytime we go to their house now. I love that there are no batteries, and it's sturdy enough to stand up to being dropped, smacked, etc. I also like that you can play with it different ways. The baby can drop coins into the top hole, bigger ones can work on color/size matching in the front holes, toddlers have fun swiping the "credit cards", and bigger kids use it to play store and buy/sell things with the money. I highly recommend, it's a great toy. ... show more

  • Awesome, non-annoying toy
This is a great child-powered, no batteries, no annoying lights and sounds toy. My 16-month-old is a little young for it but I got it for him because of his fascination with money, coins, credit cards, and registers at the stores. He loves how many different things you can do with this toy. You can put the coins in the slots on the front, put them in the slot in the top and watch them roll down, you can press the number display on the top, you can swipe the credit card, you can insert the bills into the drawer slot, and you can pull the handle to open the drawer! That's a lot of different little activities for a little explorer! I'm very happy with this toy and I think he'll like it even more as he gets a little older too. ... show more

  • Cute toy that encourages imaginative play!
I'll start by saying this little cash register has definitely captured my toddlers attention. I like that the coins are sorted by different colors and sizes, and they only fit in the corresponding slot. I'm not impressed with quality, but I suppose that is to be expected now a days where toys just aren't made like they used to be. The cash register drawer is flimsy, as is the "display" above the coin slots. It also doesnt "ding" every time the lever is pulled. All in all, I'm pleased. I like giving my toddler toy options that don't always involve bright lights and/or "speak" to you. This fits the bill; allowing imaginative play while developing fine motor skills and incorporating learning (colors, numbers, sizes). So far it has withstood my toddlers rough approach to playing with it. We will see how durable it is in the coming months. ... show more
