  • Unbeatable value for the price
*: White for Sony E-mount
I bought this lens with low expectations based on the price and hoped to possibly get a few good shots. I have been pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to lock in on a subject and get usable results. You will want to use a tripod and a timer to eliminate any movement but the output is far better than the price suggests. This lens is easy to recommend with confidence. ... show more

  • Has been dropped
*: White for Canon EF
It came damaged. It's not dented but chipped, and the lens cap was jammed inside the lens, I had one he'll of a time removing it. I noticed the box has been opened before it was shipped to me. Also, the lens was shipped in a plastic bag, but more likely the lens was a previous return and re-shipped to me. ... show more

  • Pleasantly surprised
*: White for Sony E-mount
The media could not be loaded. First of all, I wasn’t expecting much out of this lens. I have never spent so little $$ on a lens but I wanted something really far reaching for the eclipse. It did the job! Just needs to be setup on a tripod and hands free. Pros: The package arrived promptly and in good working order. Easy to operate. Long distance so you can get some really unique shots. I used it for the purpose of video on my Sony fx3. As someone who uses manual focus frequently, I had no problem locking in focus. It’s lightweight is a definite bonus. Cons: My main critique is that it isn’t very sharp. Secondly, I had a moment where I thought it wasn’t the right mount. So I checked my order again and it said e-mount. I was about to give up all hope but then I realized there was also a small white box - in there was a mount adapter and thus I was able to securely mount the lens to my camera. The downfall with this is that in order to put the back cap on - you need to take the adapter off every time. An extra step I’m not thrilled about but willing to do. Overall, this lens is impressive for it’s extremely low price point. It’s a “why not?” Kind of purchase. ✨ ... show more

  • You get what you pay for
*: White for Canon EF
It's an okay lens for the price. Does well enough in daylight conditions, but really suffers at dusk. Mainly due to it's relatively high f-stop. Build quality isn't great, but isn't terrible either. Works well on a tripod, but shooting freehand can work as long as there's enough light for a high shutter speed. If you're going to try to use it during twilight, you will need a very sturdy tripod as well as a remote shutter release as ANY movement (including the slight movement from a mechanical shutter) can ruin the shot. I still haven't gotten any sharp night shots with this lens, even with a tripod. The tripod mount is too far forward, making the whole assembly too heavy in the rear when zoomed out to 420mm. Perhaps it might do better with a mirrorless camera with an electronic shutter, but I don't have one yet. Overall, I would say it would work okay for someone looking to get into wildlife photography on a budget. However, there are couple lenses that have similar magnification at lower f-stop that only cost $50 - $60 more than this lens. For instance, Opteka has a Cassegrain-type mirror lens in 500mm (non-zoomable) at f/6.3. Compare this with the Lightdow's f/10 at 500mm. Although mirror lenses are a bit different from standard lenses, the smaller form factor and extra light makes them much easier to get shots without motion blur in darker environments, even without a tripod. ... show more

  • Very Satisfied
*: White for Canon EF
If you have read the other reviews you will understand that there are limitations to this lens, but don't let that discourage you. Keep in mind that the biggest aspect here was the price. I actually had fun trying this out today. You're going to need a bright day because the aperture is fixed according to the focal length. For example, at 420mm the aperture is fixed at f8.3. As you increase the focal length, the aperture gets smaller until you get to 800mm where the aperture is fixed at f16. If you are interested in purchasing this lens, please read the special note that you need to use this lens in the manual mode on your camera. Remember, this lens is less than $100, so we are talking about something worthwhile for those who just simply enjoy photography. That said, I took several photos from a nearby location. The one where the heron is looking to the left is using the Canon 75-300mm at 300mm. The photo looking toward the exit sign was with the Canon 18-55mm at 40mm. I took these to compare this lens with those that have auto focus. All the photos but one are unedited (except for size) and the ISO was set to 100. I was very impressed with how the lens performed for one of this price range. It will take some practice and patience learning to focus manually, but it will pay off. As recommended in other reviews, use the live view on your camera and use a remote (or at least 10 seconds on the timer) to reduce camera shake. You have to remember that not only are you magnifying the subject, but also any movement. Unfortunately, it was so bright that I couldn't really see the LCD screen to focus (I think I could have gotten the images sharper), so I had to do the best I could with focusing through the viewfinder. But still, I was happy with the results. With patience (required regardless) and some editing, I think you'll be pleased. There will be some chromatic aberrations, which is to be expected, but with some photo editing (such as Light Room Classic), you should be able to clear that up. Overall, this lens performed as was advertised. It comes with an EOS adapter, which is metal instead of plastic (a plus!). The lens also comes in a bag. After a few minutes of practice attaching the adapter and then attaching the lens to the camera, I felt very comfortable. I keep the extra quick release adapter that came my tripod on all the time. If you want to have some fun with telephoto photography, then this lens is definitely worth getting! The photo of the jet was taken without the use of a tripod. The camera was set to AV so I only had to concentrate on focusing. I figure the jet was at about 28,000 feet but I could tell what type of flight it was. With $30 of the price you can’t go wrong! ... show more

  • Shocked that this works
For a $60 lens, I had really low expectations, but this works! Sure, it can’t be compared to a canon L lens, but it’s good enough (it’s all manual focus). My bf bought one, and after seeing the quality, I bought my own. Some images are pretty soft, which is probably due to a combination of my less than perfect manual focusing with the glass quality. But I’m going to try to put the images in Topaz to see if that sharpens them up ... show more
