  • Exceeded my expectations
*: for Nikon
I am extremely pleased with this. For the price I was expecting something cheaply made, impossible to use. There was no way I could get good pictures, I thought. First off, it's very well constructed. Heavy, sturdy steel. The lenses seem crystal clear. It feels like a more expensive item. It's not some 3D printed, mass produced piece of crap. Definitely worth more than the price, as far as workmanship is concerned. Secondly, I was pleasantly surprised with the picture quality I got. Of course the first pictures I took were of the moon (like everyone else). You can actually see craters. The picture of the rabbit--that's from about 50 feet away, hand held, no tripod. You can see for yourself the color and the clarity. Now, this IS a manual lens. I'm using a Nikon D3200, very basic DSLR, set to MANUAL. After experimenting with different ISO's and shutter speeds, and some pictures that didn't turn out, I think I got the hang of it. For the moon picture I did have to mount it on a tripod and use the timer release to click the shot, to minimize blur. But you can get good pictures without a tripod for distances up to about 50 feet. Definitely worth the price. I wasn't quite ready to invest in a $3000-10,000 lens. This does what I need it to do. ... show more

  • Really nice lens for the money
*: for Nikon
As pics show, these all shot at full 800mm. No tripod, all hand shots. It is going to add some bulk, but if you have good methods of holding telephoto lenses you know how to do it. I just got this today, and the quality is really nice for the 80 or so bucks spent. This resolves nicely on my D750 though it shows DX, and crops the image. It didn't state DX lens in the order details or description, but I assumed it would be. Full frame tele lenses just don't come with $80-100 price tags. Build quality is great too... again for the price. Focus ring is tight, and I like that. Most kit lenses DX lenses are on the loose focus ring side of things. Too easy to move. The lens cap is the weakest point. Spring was stuck. I can get another if needed. Not a big deal. This basically makes your camera look like a small telescope. The included T ring for the lens is nicely made. No issues, all metal and has 3 small allen screws for extra security to the lens mount. Comes with lens caps, faux leather case. Some chromatic aberration is to be expected, but overall if your subject is center, it's not bad. The flag picture above with the cloud background was shot at the full 800mm. The problem I had in my camera was not being able to set the Aperture. It fixed at F22. Auto ISO did well enough for most shots. I bought this to photo rocket launches as well. Great lens, awesome price!!! Not good in low light though, so don't expect much there. Should work better on a tripod for moon, or even bright planets. Going to try getting Jupiter and it's bigger moons. ... show more

  • Love this Lens!
*: for Nikon
I was a little nervous about ordering this because other reviews were so questionable. But I love it! It is going to help me step up my photography. I'm still getting used to it, but it's fairly easy to learn and use. Make sure to remember to set your camera to Manual. I have a nikon d3400 and just add the adapter ring then click the lens onto my camera. I have absolutely figured out I can't use it without some sort of tripod or support. It does get heavy which leads to the blur. If you are thinking about buying this as a low cost lens, I recommend it. Give yourself some grace and enjoy the lens! Oh and that coyote photo is at least 300 yards away. ... show more

  • Worthless.
*: For Canon EF (DSLR)
Arrived with a broken lens cap. Image quality is blah, focusing is clunky. Wouldn't purchase a second time. Edit: I've had more time to work with the lens and it would be of better use as a baseball bat. Unless your tripod is a huge cement block with chains holding the camera in place, do not expect to be able to focus manually (like there is any other option), because the image will jerk all over the place due to the lens's flimsy design. If you are hoping to photograph wildlife, do not buy this lens, because as the geese/squirrels/etc move around, you will be constantly fighting with this lens trying to refocus. This is the worst purchase I've yet made from this site, and I strongly advise you spend a couple extra bucks for a better option. This is a waste of the natural resources that went into making it. ... show more

  • You get what you pay for.
*: for Nikon
I got this for extremely cheap on Black Friday so I am just going to lead with yes you get what you pay for. The first thing is while it does "technically" fit on a Nikon D750 it does not lock into place so when you are focusing to either extreme you have to hold the lens in place which needless to say can be a bother. This is manual focus only so be ready for that and while it says it can do auto aperture my camera only showed F0. That being said my first experiments with the lens were not bad. Color over all was natural and focus was clear using it either as a semi-macro or long-range telephoto. The main downside issue is there was a very minor bit of vignetting in the corners of photos when I had it out to the full 800 mm. In summary if you can afford either of the actual Nikon lenses, get them. If you must have a long-range telephoto lens and you can get it at the Black Friday price, it will do, not great but it will do. ... show more

  • Slow on the uptake
*: For Canon EF (DSLR)
I wanted to use this lens to shoot photos of bears near where I live in Montana. They are grizzly bears that gather in a specific area to eat a specific plant so they’re a predator to humans and it’s required to use a telephoto lens, the longer the better, for safety reasons. I found the focus ring was just very tight and hard to turn and that is not going to work for the type of stop action shooting I do, the focus also was not as crisp and I would see in something that shoots a little more opened up. It is no longer a practical purchase because it does t quite work for what I needed. For beginners or something this might be a good tool in patience and staged shots ... show more

  • Manual focus
*: For Canon EF (DSLR)
Not sure why the rate features has auto-focus listed. This is a manual lens. Takes some getting used to including to not get the lighting somewhat foggy with shutter speeds. Also easy to get shakiness/blur sense its such a long shot lens. I have some goods shots with it all the same, but needs practice. ... show more
