This box is sturdy and weatherproof, and my first one has lasted for many years, while the lid on the bin from a competing brand has bowed and is no longer rain-proof. The lid latches securely and is perfectly flat, so it doesn’t collect water or tree debris. The Lifetime storage containers are incredibly sturdy. This was the 7th one I have bought. I have used them inside my goat area for feed and hay. The goats lay on them and they hold up very well. Pros: Solid, double-wall construction, weatherproof, perfect size for patio seat cushions. Cons: Shockingly difficult assembly. Professional tool set required. Now that I've assembled the deck storage box, I'm very happy with my purchase, but in an era when most consumer products that require assembly come with a simple set of all tools needed for assembly, this set requires tools most people don't have on hand. I'm a hobbyist and I do have a rather thorough set of professional tools, but even for me, an assembly that should've taken a half-hour to an hour at most took me three hours to complete. There is simply no excuse for such a thoughtless design. There is a Youtube demo available that makes the assembly look easy, but it fails to reveal critical steps that are necessary to ensure that pieces fit together properly. Making matters worse, there are multiple contradictions, as for example, showing a drill/driver in the list of required tools but then but then using a symbol of a drill with a circle and a line through it on every single page where it might be used. In the video, the instructor uses the drill driver at ever stage, even though the written instructions do not allow it. The written instructions recommend two-person assembly, yet the video brings in a second person only to hold the lid while the instructor fastens it in place - a function that can be done by propping the lid against a wall. A second person would be helpful at the beginning to hold the front and back in place, but that is shown being done by one person in the video. There is also a tool missing from the list - a 3/8" nut driver or socket wrench. In addition to the lack of adequate instructions, there are some serious problems with the design in terms with the assembly process. Firstly, none of the holes are pre-drilled. Jut that one issue provides multiple opportunities to assembly things incorrectly and to place screws in the wrong place. The screws are self-tapping, so with a drill/driver, they will drill their own holes, but pre-drilled holes would've allowed for assembly with an ordinary screwdriver while making it nearly impossible to place things incorrectly. Secondly, when the instructions show both open wrenches and socket wrenches, it's truly because both types of wrenches are needed simultaneously. The clearances are very tight, so an adjustable wrench or a box wrench won't fit. I suspect a lot of people who don't have a ratchet set or a full set of wrenches will try using pliers, which simply won't be adequate. In the very first step, one must slide both the front and back onto the base using a set of tabs and slots, but the clearance is way too tight and attempting to force the parts in place can very easily result in damaging the tabs. In my case, the back slid on fairly easily but the front did not and I had to literally pry the tabs into place while simultaneously sliding. For such a nice deck box, this particular aspect of the assembly is terrible. The sides need to be first fully aligned with the front and back before being pushed down. If the alignment slips, the sides will have to be pried back out of the base and one will have to start over. The screws that are used on the tabs are very difficult to place, given the lack of pre-drilled hoes, and don't really hold anything together. I'm sill not sure what purpose they serve other than to prevent disassembly. Finally, the hinges have to be slid into place, front end first, but that's something that's easily overlooked, forcing one to disassemble it and start over. I've assembled other deck boxes and although this is one of the sturdiest I've found, most others assembled easily without the need for any tools at all, or at most the tightening of a few screws. If a wrench was needed, a simple disposable one was included with the other parts. No consumer product should require a professional set of tools for assembly and even for someone who has the tools and experience, the difficulty in assembling this product is inexcusable. ... show more

We needed a dock box the name brand boxes are $700 and up. This box was easy to assemble and place on dock. Works great water proof. Just got 5” of rain over a weeks time and box is dry inside.

Do not pay any attention to what tools they tell you...You cannot use a drill, You need a wrench and a set of pliers. A rubber mallet would be helpful. It is awesome once you get it together. The directions are terrible, but read them carefully and dont try to put together without reading them, cause you will be wrong. I think they just need to re-write the directions.
