  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Durability & weather tight
Style: Deck Box Size: 130 Gallon Color: Desert Sand
I love the Lifetime storage box this is actually the second one I purchased as I needed another for more cushions, beach umbrella and more. I added a little clip to the place you can put a lock as I do not need to lock mine I can honestly say weather tight and no critters or spiders can get inside.

Dumped the old Rubbermaid container with all the bugs and dirt. Slightly bigger than the California house one.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Not Sure Why Other Reviewers are Having Issues!
Style: Deck Box Size: 130 Gallon Color: Desert Sand
I was hesitant to buy this after reading several others reviews. Specifically reviews about the top warping and people saying the hardware was the wrong size... couldn't get the gas struts to snap on, etc. The box is heavy duty injection molded plastic. So, the tolerances are not going to be to a thousandth of an inch. But, with a little coaxing in a couple places it went together without issue. I did it on a 93 degree day on the shaded area of my paver patio in Florida, in about an hour, including time to assemble my tools and unbox the parts. The box as designed will not be waterproof... In that, if it sits in standing water... the water will get in. I've had it out in some good strong rains in Florida, sitting on my paver deck, and I've never found water inside. With a driving rain, perhaps a small amount might be able to seep in, but I've not experienced it. I don't see how the other reviewer had the lid warp. There is a heavy piece of metal that is screwed in place along the top front edge, that would resist the kind of warping they showed in their picture. Either Lifetime updated their design, or the reviewer failed to install the metal brace! When installing the screws, I highly recommend a socket wrench, or a socket adapter for a cordless drill. When tightening fasteners, just snug them down into place. Too tight and you could strip them out into the plastic. The gas struts snapped into place on the hinges. I simply snapped one end on the ball joint on the hinge attached to the lid, and then moved the angle of the lid until the bottom end of the strut lined up with the ball joint on the other end of the hinge and snapped it into place. I'm no "Muscle Bound He Man"... after doing the first one I remarked to my wife about the issues the other reviewer had. She wanted to have a try, so I had her do the other one. She did it easily without needed guidance or tools. She is not a body builder either! LOL When installing the front and back into the base, use a rubber mallet to coax things into place like instructed, or a small piece of 2x4 (or other wood) to protect the plastic if using a standard hammer. You have to get some tabs to go into a slot, and then slide them. When installing the front and back to the base I found that giving a couple whacks with a rubber mallet, then setting it on it's side to make sure all the tabs were located correctly and sliding in the slots. Then I left it sitting on the right side, and moved them fully into place by tapping on the top left with the rubber mallet.... gravity helps you a bit this way. Assembly does require a little skillfully applied force in some areas. If you have 7/16, 3/8 & 1/2 sockets and wrenches, a phillips #2 screwdriver, and either a rubber mallet or hammer and small block of wood to use when hitting the plastic, you should be fine. ... show more

  • 2.0 out of 5 stars If you value your hands and/or sanity, do not buy
Style: Deck Box Size: 130 Gallon Color: Desert Sand
Before I begin: I am a young, healthy man, able-bodied and sound of mind. Assembling this cursed chest did nothing less than sap my will to live. When conducting my Amazon research I tend to ignore reviews that focus on assembly. “You only do it once!” I think, blissfully naive. “How bad could it be?” I blithely inquire, my youthful ignorance blinding me to the cruel realities of poorly drilled rigid dual wall high density polyethylene. My eyes have been opened now to the pain. One does not soon shake the trauma of manually birthing the Lifetime 60040 Deck Box, 130 Gallon. My lovely, patient, and quite literate girlfriend was my Virgil through the seven levels of assembly hell, carefully parsing the Voynich manuscript of an instruction manual. But even together, we could not tame the beast. Screws? Too big for the holes. Tabs? Wouldn’t slide in to place. It’s as if the mad outdoor storage scientists at Lifetime Frankenstein-monstered together this pitiful crate from the scraps and leftover parts sitting around the warehouse. And if you happen to misread the instructions and put a side in the wrong slot? Sorry, you boarded a one-way trip to boxtown. That side will stay in that slot until the heat death of the universe. Your puny pliers have no power here. Through sheer force of will and by the blessings of the patron saint of home assembly we persisted. Each step more terrifyingly imprecise than the last, a Saw-like puzzle box determined to sever a finger or stab a palm. Until finally, against all odds, like the Greek runner of Marathon, we arrive at the last step. After pushing and yanking and twisting and hammering, testing the strength of our bodies and of the rust resistant stainless steel hardware, all we have to do is pop on the little hinge springs. In my eagerness to escape the vast meaningless expanse that was the last two hours, I put the wrong side on first. “No bother! I’ll just take it off and turn it around!” Wrong. The plastic socket shatters into pieces in my tattered hands. Part of my soul shatters with it. Dejected, defeated, we carry it into place, the lid hanging limply askew. “We’ll just be careful with it,” my girlfriend says, reassuringly. I know each time I step out on the deck now, it will be sitting there, smugly in the corner, mocking my manhood, my pathetic human frailty, my lack of waterproofedness. And as we clean up the scattered remnants of our doomed mission, there it is, a single screw. Unlike any we’d used. Rolling innocently on the table. “You’ll never truly finish anything you start” it whispers. We must now find a lock strong enough to contain whatever Lovecraftian horror is trapped in this box’s soul. I do not know if I will tell the tale of the Lifetime 60040 Deck Box, 130 Gallon to my grandchildren, or if I will keep it private, filed away and repressed, a memory of an experience that cannot be learned from or explained, only feared. I know I will never quite be the same. Would have given one star, gave two stars because it does hold things. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars One Person Assembly
Style: Deck Box Size: 130 Gallon Color: Desert Sand
This is the 3rd of these boxes I have purchased and assembled. Two people doing it could be helpful, but I did all three by myself. The most difficult part is attaching the long sides (front and back) to the base. The molded plastic pegs are difficult to slide and lock into the slots. You can't use a hammer to knock the side into place because you will damage the plastic. I learned to spread a little dish washing soap and a little water on the base where the slots are and standing on the base, with enough force, I could push the side into the correct position (you'll know what I'm talking about when you do it. The only other tight spot is attaching the hinges to the box (not the lid). there are plastic holes to align with the metal holes of the hinge, with small bolts and nuts. Aligning was difficult, and do NOT over-tighten or you could mash/damage the plastic. Just slightly firm. USE THE INSTRUCTIONS. ... show more
