  • More Newbie info about connecting to TV and cable box. I was also VERY frustrated but now all good
Model: SN6Y Style: Soundbar Only
I write my review to agree with Voxman and that review, dated June 2, 2022. I am reasonably familiar with how a soundbar connects to a TV having successfully connected a Vizio TV to a Vizio brand sound bar. Like Voxman, after many failed attempts to connect the LG SN6Y soundbar to my LG 55 inch C2 tv, I gave up. Having read the Voxman review on Amazon I did NOT reach out to LG customer support. Instead, I followed the advice, step-by-step, in the review by Voxman dated June 2, 2022, here on Amazon. I am going to repeat the Voxman advice, using a step-by-step approach, for clarity. Basic issue: the LG Wireless Sound Bar Model SN6Y Owner’s Manual fails to address how to connect the sound bar using a cable box. Here is how you must connect your cable box, tv and sound bar: Step 1: Connect the HDMI cable coming out of the cable box to your tv using any HDMI input connection on the tv EXCEPT for the HDMI ARC input connection. (You will use the HDMI ARC input connection in Step 2) Step 2: Connect another HDMI cable to your tv’s HDMI ARC connection. Then connect the other end to the HDMI ARC input/output on the LG sound bar. The result is that you have HDMI ARC on the TV connected to HDMI ARC on the sound bar. In this manner (1) the cable tv audio signal will come thru the sound bar and NOT thru the tv speakers. And, of course, the cable tv video signal will come thru on the tv screen. In addition, all streaming audio (using the WebOS interface) like Netflix or YouTube etc., will come thru the sound bar as well, along with the video signal. Criticism of the LG Owner’s Manual Wireless Sound Bar 2015_Rev04 Included in the SN6Y packaging acquired June 30, 2022, on Amazon Page 24 “Using and HDMI cable” The written instructions and the diagram indicate connecting the sound bar HDMI ARC to the tv HDMI ARC. But the written instructions fail to address where the original source of the audio and video signal comes from. LIKE FROM A CABLE BOX. At a minimum, it does not show any source of signal in the diagram or the accompanying written text. Page 26 “Optional equipment connection” “For enjoying both sound and picture” The written instructions and the diagram indicate connecting a source device using HDMI OUT to the sound bar HDMI IN. The written instructions and the diagram indicate connecting the sound bar HDMI ARC out to the tv HDMI IN, (but notably NOT the tv HDMI ARC IN.) The result is that the instructions and diagram fail to address how the original video source signal should directed to the tv. LIKE FROM A CABLE BOX. At a minimum, it does not show any source of video signal in the diagram or the accompanying written text. ... show more

  • Newbie info about connecting to TV and cable box. I was very Frustrated but now all good.
Model: S65Q Style: Soundbar Only
Mainly leaving this info for other folks who are not familiar with how the soundbar connects to TV. After many attempts to connect soundbar to my LG TV, I basically gave up and reached out to LG support. Efforts to reach a knowledgeable and English speaking tech agent were at best very frustrating to the point of wanting to pack the soundbar back up and returning it. LG tech support was horrible especially the “chat” connection. I “spoke” with no less than 4 separate agents all of which were to me not knowledgeable enough to figure out what my problem was getting soundbar to work properly with TV. Downloaded the 50 or so pages of the user manual. It is very detailed but confusing and in my instance, led me the wrong way to connect soundbar. After 2 more phone call to tech support, the problem was resolved. (BTW, all the tech support agents were difficult to understand due to fact they are foreign which is the norm these days) Here’s how you’re supposed to connect your cable box, tv, and soundbar. HDMI cable out of the cable box into the TV…this was the problem for me. Then connect another HDMI ARC type cable to your TV’s HDMI ARC input/output and connect it to the HDMI ARC input on soundbar. According to user manual, this wasn’t the correct method but it all made sense after I was told to connect cable box cable to tv directly. Previously I had the system working fine with using soundbar HDMI input but every time I shut tv down and turned tv back on, the soundbar would change input back to the HDMI ARC preventing video and audio from reaching tv. Like I said earlier, support agents all missed this incorrect connection. My LG tv was telling the soundbar to change the input from HDMI to HDMI ARC (which we know now is correct input). TV also controlled the the soundbar power on and off…nice feature. So my system works fine now. My Spectrum cable box, TV, and soundbar all come on and off using my Spectrum remote. The volume also is controlled by the Spectrum remote. My wife couldn’t be happier. The sound function on soundbar is set to CLEAR dialogue which was the whole reason for getting a soundbar. Added bonus was the subwoofer which provides the much needed bass. Subwoofer connects automatically too. No problems. So if you’re a new to these soundbars, connect the cables as described and you won’t have any problems. I just wish I didn’t need to waste 5 or more hours with tech support to figure this out. ... show more

  • Great Addition to My LG OLED TV in a 10' x 15' TV Room
Model: S65Q Style: Soundbar Only
I bought this highly rated LG S65Q speaker to pair with my 55" LG OLED TV and replace my old SONY sound bar. I was never able to take advantage of the features of the circa 2012 SONY with my new LG OLED TV, and was very impressed with the instant compatibility of the LG Sound Bar with my LG TV. The new sound system was very easy to set up following LG's 2022 updated online instruction manual. far I've not experienced any connectivity problems or sound issues with any of the LG sound bar's controls or components. I'm very pleased with this purchase made on Amazon Prime Day! If you are lucky enough to own an LG OLED TV, you need this LG S65Q sound bar and woofer to get the best audio / video experience possible! ... show more

  • So, so easy!
Model: SN6Y Style: Soundbar Only
I only give 5 stars for exceeding my expectations. I gave 4 stars because because this product met my expectations. Wall mounting instructions were good and brackets provided gave plenty of room for all the TV cords to slide through. I used optical cable provided to connect to TV. HDMI cable also included. Setup was painless. Paired sound bar to base speaker, painless. I turned the TV on and turned on sound bar. After that sound bar did the rest. It searched all inputs and found the optical connection. Setup done! Without any programming sound bar turns off when TV turns off and turns on when TV turns on. Sound bar volume is controlled by tv volume control. I turned off tv speakers, my preference you can leave the on, but why? One minor complaint the unit is a little heavy on the base and I do not know how to change it. To wrap up much better sound than internal speakers with much better sound quality. ... show more
