I usually buy mid-priced reels but decided to buy a higher-end bait caster to spool with fluorocarbon for skipping docks and under lay-downs. I have other Lew's reels and like them. My first impression upon receiving the reel was they had sent me an empty box...it is THAT lightweight. It's nice-looking too. I spooled it up with FC Sniper fluoro, put on a jig and went fishing. I dialed in the brake in open water, tossing the bait easy until I was confident I wouldn't end up with a big mess on the spool when I tried skipping. After I had it dialed in and practiced skipping a bit. I moved to actual docks and trees. Not one bird's nest or problem. It also worked amazingly well for long casts. I had my thumb ready but the brakes on this reel worked like magic. I'm very happy. ... show more

Super lightweight which is awesome for flipping you feel so much more. I recommend the higher ratio which is what I have for flipping to help pull those fish out of structure which the 20lb drag also helps with. If you’re breaking the bank to buy this I’d recommend the LFS the reel is basically the LFS on steroids haha. ... show more

So freakin amazing i immediately ordered another one! I have 5 Quantum Smoke S3's and 4 other Lews reels and they are smooth and cast great but this Lew's Hyper Mag blows them out of the water! A lil pricey but they are worth every penny! Great for flippin or casting. I fish several times a week and hit every local tournament possible. First time out we were flippin Big Worms n i caught 9 fish and i set the hook vicously and no drag slippage at all. Super smooth and fast! ... show more

Great reel for the money, but for the price it has factory flaws that are unacceptable. Nothing that can't be resolved but when you buy a reel that costs $50 and it operates perfectly, it's unacceptable. Register your reel and lews will take care of you. Other than that it operates flawlessly and throws anything you want without issue and minimal adjustments to the reel. ... show more

The hypermag is on of the finest reels on the deck of my boat. This reel sets the bar for all others. I thought it was over priced until I put it to work. The amount of control in the cast is worth every dollar. I wouldn't use this reel for heavy duty punching 1 1/2oz stuff. That's not what I want it for anyway.
