This reel will work for RIGHT or LEFT hand applications - it has a cap on the one side and you can easily reverse. I have been getting questions so I wanted to post this review. Its a great mid-priced reel for medium to heavy spin cast applications. Heavy for freshwater and Medium for Saltwater. Great for casting from shore and boats. Not recommend to heavy use from boats in salt water applications unless casting for smaller fish inshore. Lew's does a great job with their reels - very impressed. ... show more

Love the look and quality. Did not like the size it is larger than I wanted for speckle trout fishing inshore. Also felt a bit stiff and tight, not exceedingly free and fluid like other spinning reels I own such as the Shimano Vanford that is priced considerably higher. I just bought my second reel. I love it. It's on my Lews speed stick rod and my Ocuma rod. It pairs great with both rods. I've landed a fair share of redfish, speckled trout, flounder, and other inshore fish.

Of all the boxes you want checked for a spinning reel Lew’s covers all the bases. Most better fishermen after casting close the bail with the non-casting hand as opposed to using the handle to engage the bail. This reel’s bail closes easily, the drag is fairly smooth, the reel holds up pretty well to salt water. Everything about this reel meets all the expectations reasonably well and therefor it has earned a rating of “4” Stars from me. It is a decent value for the money. For many years, I was a Quantum reel and rod user. A few years back, they were purchased by Rather Outdoors Inc., the parent company of Lew’s. Quantum’s production and sales in the US has been reduced tremendously, so I switched over to Lew’s. I have not been disappointed yet. This reel is smooth and has a great drag system. I love the Winn grips that Lew’s uses on some of their reels, like this one. Although it is an inshore reel, and can be used in saltwater, I only use it for fishing for bass in freshwater. I paired it with a Favorite Defender rod and the combo looks and feels terrific together. ... show more

This is a great reel I've had for 2 years. I wade fish and have had salt water get in it several times. I've only rebuilt it once and didn't have to replace parts and it is as smooth as the day I got it.
