I've never been a fan of valve guards, as I'm fascinated by the patina process and prefer an aged/tarnished horn to a shiny polished one pretty much universally. That said, if you have a trumpet with a delicate/custom finish — and/or you have especially sweaty hands — and want to maintain the pristine condition of that finish, this is a great option for a valve guard. It's "vegan leather" but feels pretty close to the real thing, and is nice and robust in the hand. The velcro closure seems strong enough to hold through any normal use, and the branding is minimal (and hidden by the hand when in use). ... show more

On my trumpet, it eliminated some of the vibration sounds coming from the valves. It helped me hear more of my raw tone while still sounding good. It's helps with grip a lot. I wouldn't start out with a valve guard, but for established players, it may be beneficial.

It's pretty nice looking vegan leather that's soft and supple, and gives a trumpet a little bit of padding to make it a little more comfortable to hold without affecting sound. When you're playing your heart out, sweating is a given. That's why it's nice to have a valve guard to protect against oils from slippery fingers. This valve guard is made of a soft faux leather material that feels good to the touch. I'm not sure what the material is actually made of -- they call it vegan leather -- but it looks and feels like real leather. It has a luxe feel and is soft yet solid -- it doesn't feel flimsy at all. I believe it will do a good job protecting against scratches, stains, fingerprints and oil. This non leather valve guard is easy to install, keeps the valves free of sweat and makes for an overall better playing experience especially when you have a Momentum going. The material is as durable as leather and seems like it will last a good long time. With a simple velcro hook and loop it's easily installed. Looks great on my 90s Bach Stradivarius with a saddle first valve slide. It fit well and I expect it to do a great job protecting my investment from sweaty hands. Note that this did NOT work on my 70's Strad with a spring trigger slide. However, it can be modified to work with a trigger but won't look as neat since you will be cutting through the stitching. ... show more
