Description

When you board an elevator you do so as an act of faith. You have faith that when the doors open you'll be where you expected to be. For Jake that isn’t always so. When fourteen-year-old Jake and his dad board the local mall’s antique elevator with a group of strangers, the shoppers exit at a floor where things are subtly different. They team up with some of their fellow travelers and realize they have they have powers to tap into to help them escape and get back again. The tension is high and the unseen forces at play make this an exciting read in the spirit of the Hunger Games and Maze Runner. • Great read.
Great book from start to the exciting climactic ending. Turns the light on a significant cultural problem from an interesting perspective. Jake and his fellow travelers fight to stay alive long enough to figure out how to get home.

  • sci-fi exploration of alternate realities
This book has all the key ingredients to a great sci-fi story: special abilities, action, adventure, dystopian future, alternate realities and histories. Interesting perspective on discrimination - I think the author is exploring racism for a neo-Marxist materialist view of power and (future) history, which can be dangerous. I hope you enjoy this race back to reality! ... show more

  • Dumb book
The overuse of "shruging shoulders", "nodding head" and "blink of an eye", are ridiculous. The story seems to repeat. Waste of time to have written and read.

  • Boring af
I made it a quarter of the way through the book and it's just horrible. Nothing of interest happens until like 23%. and all the heavens then is the protagonist and a random girl seem to get sucked into an alternate universe where there's no. This is a really boring and horrible story no one should read it. ... show more

  • A slow story built around fears of losing white privilige
I only made it 26% through. It was slow moving with a lot of seemingly unessential analysis doing a lot to set the scene. When I realized that it was a White Fear story about a world where non-whites took power and started imprisoning and generally visiting historical abuses on whites I just couldn't get myself to keep reading. ... show more
