    • Very fun lens - but sent back because of loose mount
I really enjoyed this lens. I went into the purchase with a different mindset from a "normal" lens. Between the manual focus and crazy "dream" effect, I was braced for a new experience. The lens was surprising in many ways. I enjoyed the effects immensely. When stopped down, the lens was surprisingly sharp. The only issue I had was that the lens mount was extremely loose and wobbled on both of my cameras. I played around with the idea of using plumber's tape or something to get rid of the wobble and prevent dust from getting in, but in the end I couldn't justify spending that much for something that didn't work correctly. I haven't replaced it yet, but it's on my list to try again in the future. ... show more

I love this Lensbaby Velvet 85 lens. Although there is a slight learning curve with it, it takes amazing photos. If you purchase this lens keep in mind that it is a fully manual lens.

    • No Quality Control
I tried 2 of these lenses. They both suffered from the same issues and so I returned both. In both cases the aperture blades are not centered in the lens. This means that even at wide open, the blades, on one side, were still in the light path and this caused flares when used in natural light. The aperture ring was sloppy, it wiggled up and down and side to side. This is not as bad as uncentered aperture blades, but it means you can never accurately set the aperture. The worst problem occurs when focusing the lens, when the focus tube is partially to fully extended, it flops side to side. This give a tilt lens effect. So, even at apertures of f/11 to f/22 the image is not focused top to bottom. Also, about half way through the focus throw there's "tight" spot were the focusing ring gets stuck. In other words, its not a smooth twisting action. Granted this lens is only $500, but even at that price point I think that quality construction should not have to be an issue. ... show more

Received my lens today. I was waiting all day and this is how the box came. I got it as a gift and The box the Lena comes in is totally smashed like if it fell off the shipping truck. I hope the lens even works. Horrible.
