  • Lenovo Never Disappoints
Purchased 6/12/17 So far I really like this laptop. I have tried a few other models with 1060 graphics cards and I must say this one is worth the extra price. It is much cheaper straight from Lenovo though which I find odd. Several hundred cheaper actually. Asked Amazon to price match but they won't which is unfortunate but I digress. Pros: This keyboard is very nice. Probably one of the best keyboards I have ever used on a laptop. It has more of a chiclet style feel which I personally love. The keys are not nearly as stiff as I would have liked in a new laptop but honestly I love it. The keyboard is a bit odd. What I mean by that is the placement of the arrow keys and num pad. I do not use either very often so I much prefer having two full sized shift keys which very few laptops have no adays. Touchpad works really well and is a very nice place. When I type I am not hitting it like I do with a lot of laptops. It does show alot of fingerprints though. Screen is the perfect amount of HD and looks fine while gaming. Considering returning for the 4k model though after watching some of the E3 games that will be coming soon. The size is not too bad, it is no ultrabook but for what is inside the size is reasonable. Fans are really quiet, even under load. The riser they put on the bottom is really nice and makes it sit at a really nice angle on your lap. Speakers are the best I have ever heard. Not very much bass and they are pretty "flat" sounding but as far as laptops go, this is a step in the right direction. Top notch SSD, uses nvme samsung pro ssd. RGB Keyboard that you can change colors. Has four quadrants and sever settings you can change. Cons: Does not have a removable battery. Why I consider this to be a con is because when gaming it will need to be plugged it. Since I plan to game with it more than anything else that battery is going to get wrecked by having it plugged in 24/7. I dock no stars for this though because all laptops are moving that direction unfortunately. Will update post as I come across more pros or cons. ... show more

  • I have purchased Lenovo laptops for the past 12 years ...
I have purchased Lenovo laptops for the past 12 years and never had any issues. I purchased this with the understanding that it had one (1) 16GB stick so I could upgrade the ram to 32GB by purchasing an additional 16GB stick, which I did. Upon trying to install it, I discovered it had two (2) 8GB sticks, not one (1) 16GB stick. This was the direct answer from the Lenovo Manufacturer on Amazon... Question asked by a consumer on Amazon: How much ram this model can take? And how the 16mbs of ram are distributed (2 o 1 slot) Answer by Lenovo: This model can support up to 32GB of DDR4-2400MHz RAM. Factory set up is one 16GB stick Here is a link to the question and answer on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/forum/-/Tx31N7PN6M2KHOQ/ref=ask_ql_ql_al_hza?asin=B06WVQ7SQL I can't even turn on the computer until this issue is resolved... Thanks Lenovo! ... show more

  • Sound is inexcusably bad, as well as some other design choices. Overall OK. Looking forward to my next laptop already.
Cons: Sound is pretty bad. In my experience, I've had much better, even in a laptop. Old laptop had better bass from the laptop speakers, and perhaps more importantly, better DAC, which affects the quality of connecting your own speakers as well. Both are bad, and I tried all I could, tuning the included equalizer. There was always some frequency that was just hollow or otherwise sounded out of sorts. The sound software is even worse. There are presets which are designed for the laptop speakers, but don't apply well for any external speakers since all speakers are different. Instead, you have to design your own EQ for any external speakers. But you can't save presets. Meaning, if you want to have more than one EQ saved, you can't. A minimum of two is reasonable, but not available. For example, you'd want to have one for your own personal preference with the laptop speakers, and one with your own preference for your external speakers. You can't even do that. Instead, they give you this ridiculous option to literally just save a PICTURE of your settings. So if you ever want to have other settings, you have to look at a picture and try to copy what you see. That's the dumbest thing I've ever seen, seriously. Also, presets are useful when tuning your settings, so you can quickly switch between your last preset and your current to see if you've improved or worsened the sound. You can't do that here, so in order to get a good personalized sound, you have to get it right the first time, every time. The space bar and the enter key are already having issues. The space bar squeaks and the enter key clicks like something internally is catching. Of course half of the mechanism is plastic, so I can't wait to see what this turns into. The monitor is not very bright, and is tuned badly out of the box. I was able to get decent (not impressive) color, but the lack of brightness continues to be an annoyance. It basically matches my external Samsung monitor when my external is on 25% brightness. As with most modern gaming laptops, the black color of the laptop casing itself is ridiculous, because it picks up large amounts of skin oil from basic handling, which cannot be easily cleaned off. Why companies do not produce more silver/brushed aluminum casings is beyond me. Mini display port is located on the right, so it juts out right where you're using your mouse. This is only an issue if you use an external monitor, of course. This applies to HDMI as well, which is slightly further back than the display port. Between the two external display ports...are two USB ports. Why all these ports are not on the left or even the back, I have no idea. The only reason this is even usable for me is because I bought a laptop riser to give my laptop keyboard an incline. And the rise places the cords high enough not to bother me anymore. If you use this laptop on a level surface, they WILL get in the way. On that note as well, my last laptop had a nice foot built into the back to give you a natural incline. This laptop does not have that. My wrists were hurting like crazy after an hour or two of use, and I couldn't figure out why until I realized it was the lack of incline. Since purchasing the riser, everything is great in this respect. Pros: I enjoy the keyboard lighting and the ability to save presets (so I can save keyboard lighting presets but not sound presets....ok?). Monitor colors not too shabby after some tuning. Laptop speakers get very loud for a laptop. GTX 1060 does what you'd expect. Maxing out plenty of games in 1080, though 4K in many modern games will of course be an issue. But this is a fairly budget gaming laptop, and even top of the line laptops have 4K difficulty in some games right now. Fans are not too loud, and in general keep the laptop VERY cool. I enjoy the CTRL+SHIFT+0 command for max cooling when needed. I do hope that replacement of a fan when it eventually burns out is not too difficult. I actually tried to buy one in advance, but can't find one on the market yet. Battery power is excellent. I've gotten 4-5 hours with some reduced brightness, just sitting around watching youtube. That's really impressive for a gaming laptop, and one this thin. Of course you're running with reduced graphics ability and on the integrated card rather than NVIDIA during this time. Actual gaming, more than 1-2 hours max would be a laptop miracle, but that's most gaming laptops. ... show more
