  • A great start to a potentially good laptop, with some Human flaws.
For starts, it's not bad. Granted, the unit I am replacing was MUCH worse, so the comparison isn't brilliant, but we'll go with it for now. I've been putting it through a few things just to see where it sits, and it sits firmly in "Office machine" territory. Something to write your screenplays on in the coffee shop. Will it do more than that? Maybe, but honesty, I wouldn't push it to. The included 16GB of RAM(and the poorly documented nature of the notebook that says you can't upgrade) is a major sticking point(16gb in 2025 is Wildly low), which cements this as a notebook for doing your homework, doing your office work, or maybe watching movies. For that? It's probably fine. But it is not a performance machine. You will not be likely to use this for gaming. Even in just browsing, you can see signs that it's not nearly as "Snappy" as many of the astroturfed reviews of Qualcomm's processors have claimed, with noticeable command latency even in just everyday browsing tasks like closing a tab. It's best to think about this as a budget machine. For a notebook, it's cheap. It's not feature-rich(at all), it is low on the spec scale(significantly) and it's pigeonholed into just being a basic task machine. Which is fine if that's all you want. But the lack of expandable RAM, the minimal documentation, the poor futureproofing, and the relatively dim screen all mean you're gonna probably be better off going with something better if you want something better. There are finish issues too. While most of the notebook's finish is very nice, and the keyboard is a joy to type on for a notebook, the finish on the touchpad is.... sticky? Not sticky as in honey-on-a-countertop, but in the way that it grips the skin a bit as you swipe over it, which can create input issues. Fingerprint detection isn't ideal and struggles to work properly frequently. I know it sounds like I'm saying a lot of bad things here, but honestly? Again, if you just want an office machine, this is Fine. X86/X64 apps seem to install relatively well, which is nice, and while that latency issue is troubling, it at least runs well enough to feel stable. The wattage on the power supply is lower than my previous unit, the battery charges faster, and the capacity is higher, which tells me the power consumption on this thing is fantastic. So it has that going for it at least. ... show more

Very nice computer

  • Solid offering, good performance for day-to-day productivity.
Overall the computer is a solid offering with good performance for day-to-day productivity applications and web browsing. It will also work for some lighter duty creative tasks like operating Vinyl cutters, etc. However, I would not expect it to do heavy video editing or managing large libraries of photos. Nor would I expect to do much high performance gaming on this system. Memory: The 16GB is more than adequate for most tasks that this laptop is designed to tackle. Storage: The included 512GB of storage is a bit on the smaller side by today's standards. Unlike some computers, the storage IS upgradable. However, Lenovo's own page for the product claims "Future-Proof Storage, No Pros Required" due to this expandable storage option. However, there isn't a quick access panel to reach the NVME slot, it appears that you must remove the entire base of the computer using some star screws. This not something that most casual computer users will be comfortable with. Display: the display is reasonably bright (300+ NITS sustained) and clear. The Lenovo website seems to indicate it is a touch panel, but perhaps that is for a slightly different SKU as this particular computer does not appear to have this capability. In reality, I have found limited usage for a touch screen on traditional laptop form factors so I don't feel this is a downside. Keyboard: This is perhaps one area that I find a bit annoying about this computer. I don't mind desktop keyboards with the right-hand numeric pad. But on a laptop, it results in the main part of the keyboard being off center which takes quite a bit of getting use to. It also means the left edge of the keyboard is nearly at the left edge of the chassis which just seems a bit awkward for me personally. On the positive side, the keyboard does not appear to have any noticeable deck flex during usage. Trackpad: It is no MacBook trackpad, but still functions well with firm clicks and minimal flex in the trackpad area. Charging: The computer charges quickly and battery live is much better than most laptops. However, I wish Lenovo would transition to USB-C charging by default instead of the barrel jack connection. These critiques aside, the computer is a performant option for a rather reasonable price. Performance will be on-par with most Core Ultra 5 offerings from Intel while it comparatively sipping power. ... show more

  • Nice for the price
Great for the price, this is a nice little, lightweight laptop. I think the battery last for us at least 6 hours of light use. My wife is currently using it as her writing laptop, so she's mainly typing into documents on Google Drive. This uses an ARM-based CPU rather than x86. Pros: 1. Lightweight 2. Great trackpad (IMO, for a non-Mac) 3. Nice screen 4. Nice form factor 5. Nice keyboard 6. Wifi works fine Cons: 1. Special charger, not just USB-C 2. Windows 11 installation comes with a ton of bloat (maybe try setting it up as non-US English initially, supposedly that cuts out the bloatware) that I had to spend ~30m uninstalling If you're not using this for coding or gaming, basically, not using it for heavy processing, this is a great little laptop for the price. I'd look into something more powerful for those two use cases though. ... show more
