    • Budget-Friendly and Linux-Compatible - A Great Choice for Teaching Code
Background: I bought two of these IdeaPad 1 15IJL7 laptops for a very specific purpose: teaching my younger brothers how to code. The machines came with 2x 128GB drives, a 4-core Pentium Silver N6000 processor, and 8GB of RAM (4GB soldered, 4GB replaceable). They were pre-installed with some version of Windows 11. Initial Impressions: When I first booted up the machines, Windows felt a bit sluggish. Given the specs, this was somewhat expected. However, I wasn't too concerned as I planned to install Linux on my own SSDs. Upgrades: RAM: Upgraded from 8GB to 12GB using Crucial RAM 8GB DDR4 3200MHz CL22 Laptop Memory (9 USD each). SSD: Installed 2 Crucial P3 1TB PCIe Gen3 3D NAND NVMe M.2 SSDs (39 USD each). Both upgrades were straightforward, and I used a Husky Phillips Mini Screwdriver for the job. Linux Installation: I chose KUbuntu as the Linux distro for these machines. The installation was a breeze, and the performance has been snappy, thanks to KUbuntu's lightweight nature. Both machines are dual boot, so Windows is still there if my brothers need it for what ever the reason. Pros: Budget-Friendly: These laptops are super affordable. No Moving Parts: The machine is passively cooled, which is a huge plus for a budget laptop. Linux Compatibility: KUbuntu works incredibly well on this machine. Keyboard: The keyboard is surprisingly nice for a budget laptop. Cons: Build Quality: The laptop is made entirely of plastic. Audio: The speakers are tinny. Display: The monitor's brightness and contrast settings are a bit off. Final Thoughts: If you're looking for a budget-friendly, Linux-compatible laptop for educational purposes, this is a solid choice. Just be prepared to make a few hardware upgrades for optimal performance. ... show more

Just bought it and it died, missed the return by days. I used to love Lenovo this is my 3rd try. I don't think I'll be buying another Lenovo product. I wouldn't be so upset if I had gotten a year out of it. Not a heavy user, couldn't play any games on it. So basically just used to cruise social media. I bought this lap top as a cheaper option for my college work. It had no cosmetic damage or scratches and looked very good for not being brand new. My only complaint is using Microsoft office One Note , every once in a while it struggles typing the words and you have to wait for it to catch up . Computer also takes several seconds to light up after opening the lid. The battery needs charged everyday after a day of classes. But overall not a bad computer for the price ... show more
