Bought this as a gift and ended up building it alongside the recipient, which was the best decision. The build itself took about 4 hours spread over two sessions — it's a substantial set, a lot of pieces, but the instruction booklet is organized in manageable stages so you never feel overwhelmed. The interactive Mario figure integration is what makes this stand out from regular LEGO sets. You place the Mario character on different parts of the course and it reacts with sounds and points. It's genuinely clever design and held attention well past what I expected. Build quality is exactly what you expect from LEGO — tight, satisfying connections, zero missing or misshapen pieces in my set. The finished model has real display value; it's on a shelf and looks great. The Yoshi character figure is a highlight. One thing I'll mention for potential buyers: this is part of the LEGO Super Mario interactive ecosystem, so if you already have the Mario figure from another set you can use it here, but the figure isn't included separately in this set. If you're just getting into the Mario LEGO line, budget for the starter set or the figure pack too. Excellent set all around, highly recommend it. ... show more

Eight year old son lived every moment of building it, and constructed it by himself. It is one of the most complicated sets I have seen. The detail is superb and the movements are very nice. Takes a permanent spot on his shelf now

Really Awesome and animated Lego set. Husband is a lego fanatic and was able to put this together within a day and the mechanics of this is pretty spectacular. On spot cost wise for not just building this but the animation on this as well

I gave this to my late teen son for xmas gift. He loves it! Big Lego fan. Likes big sets with thousands of pieces. Has a big display. I thought this would be fun, has moving parts and does not consume a lot of space for display. Very bright colors, vs grey, white, black like some of other sets.
