One of my personal favorites coming from the Crystallized wave. The front legs are on fixed joints so they are not able to be moved freely. Nonetheless, this set is amazing!

First of all, I don't like centaurs. They are one of my least favorite fantasy creatures. It has just always seemed weird to me that you would mix half a person with 2/3 of a horse. I dunno; they're just weird. But this set... this set is amazing. I forgive it entirely for essentially being a centaur. As I finished the set and started playing around with it a little, I felt like this may be one of, if not THE, favorite Lego Ninjago sets I've ever had the pleasure of owning. For context, I have, for the most part, gotten every Ninjago set that has interested me since the Tournament of Elements back in Season 4. (However, I never got the giant temples or Ninjago city sets from the film. They seemed too big and expensive for my interests and space; so bear that in mind.) More than most, if not all, previous Ninjago seasons, this villain themed set truly feels like a villain themed set. There is only a single Ninja, Lloyd, meaning only about 2% of the set is a hero anything. You get two minions, Harumi, and a Crystal King. I haven't watched the show since they stopped putting out DVDs of the seasons; so I don't know why Harumi is back or how the Crystal King is both the Minifigure and the set's build. It isn't clear to me if this is some kind of mecha that the King goes into to pilot, or if it is his real body and the minifigure is just the power supply, or whatever. But, that leaves the door open for you to just play with the set imagining whatever you like. Or, if it is covered in the show, you can just go with that. I've been valuing this season's sets by looking at them as if they were vehicle sets in any other action figure line. Looking at it that way, you are getting $25 in action figures with the five basic minifigures and a giant mecha or action figure for another $55 at retail price. I feel like that is a good deal. The build is comparable in size/scale to the sort of MegaZord or Leader Class figure you'd get out of Power Rangers or Transformers. And the price is in line with those toy lines. The build itself is amazing. The articulation in the arms is great, and the helmet flap things articulate like mandibles (like in the Predator). While I was playing around with it, I had it opening its flaps to roar. It felt appropriate to the overall aesthetic. The wings and tail are kind of unneccessary, but articulate well. The only point where articulation is weak is in the front legs. They only articulate at the ankles which isn't very useful for posing. However, you get some motion in the rear legs to somewhat make up for it. Generally, I forgive the lack of articulation in the front legs; I understand it is for stability and simplicity for the kids this set is intended for. I strongly recommend this set to any Ninjago fan. The overall design reminds me of Berial from Devil May Cry 4, and it feels like they weren't shying away from a truly intimidating, somewhat mature look for the big bad this season. My only real complaint in the set is that there is a minor QC issue with some of the smaller crystal blades. There is an inconsistency in the molding process or in how the material expands after being created. Some of the pegs at the ends are a bit too narrow and do not have enough friction with the parts they plug into. I've found some fall out while they are just sitting around and others pop out from the lightest of play. That is a little disappointing considering the whole season's theme is about crystals when the bad guys' crystal weapons keep falling apart. ... show more
