From the first wave of sets based on The LEGO Movie, this is the one that automatically jumped out at me as the set I needed to buy first. I'm a sucker for a good robot-style build, and this one includes two great examples with very different designs. The Micro Manager is built first, and reminded me a lot of an AT-ST or AT-RT from the Star Wars theme. The legs can be a little difficult to pose, but it's still relatively stable and the arms can be moved in in several different configurations. The missiles and hatch on the top offer some extra play features as well. MetalBeard himself looks like somebody took the best parts of a pirate ship and threw them all together with a little bit of a steampunk twist. It sounds strange, but it really just works and the finished product is nothing short of amazing. He is well detailed at all angles and is extremely sturdy. The only flaw I found is that it can be kind of hard to get him to hold the sword in certain poses. The minifigs are all great. The light grey robot skeleton is a welcome addition to the family, especially the legs in that color. The builds on both mechs are pretty straightforward. The finished product is great and should provide hours of entertainment for young builders. The parts selection for the whole set is also top notch, with several elements included in certain colors for the first time. There's definitely plenty to do with the parts from this set after you get bored with battling robots and want to create something else.

At first I felt that this set was a high cost for what is essentially just one character from The Lego Movie plus one, albeit one very cool, large micromanager. Usually several minifig characters accompany each set but in this care the set IS the character. When I finally had the opportunity to handle MetalBeard after my son constructed him Christmas morning I realized all of my concerns were frivolous. And that is because MetalBeard is AWESOME. The Lego Movie moves so fast that it's easy not to appreciate the great care and detail that went into each character and set until you hold them and I feel that is especially true with MetalBeard. He is packed with little features; the dual cannons, the pistol, the treasure chest, the parrot and the steam stack, and of course the SHARK are all great features. My son is particularly fond of the cannon, which are capable of launching a lego cannonball several feet. On Christmas morning each family member received several broadsides from MB before lunch. I was concerned that his peg leg would make it difficult to stand but that turned out to be unfounded as well. In summary, it looks like Lego did their homework and produced a fun hodgepodge of a character who manages to be quirky AND sturdy in construction. Very impressive and a valuable addition to our Lego Movie collection.

I love this LEGO set. As a LEGO fan and adult collector (I collect LEGO, not adults) this is a great set. If you saw The LEGO Movie (TLM) and loved Metal Beard this is the set to get. He is ready for swashbucklin' and general gallivanting with your other TLM sets. The Metal Beard that comes with Metal Beards ship is smaller in scale and as such isn't the full Metal Beard you are expecting, but this one is and you will love it. The MicroManager is also fun and has a place for a minifig inside to man the controls. Totally worth the price.

MetalBeard is really well done, and fun to play with. His peg leg makes him slightly unstable for posing, and I can't quite get the sword to stay in his hand without a few modifications. These are minor issues - his beard piece is awesome, his cannon arm is awesome, the shark arm is awesome, and so on. He's a fun guy to have. The Micromanager is decent and you can even put a minifig in it as a pilot.

I bought this set for my 8 year old son - after building it let me tell you that he LOVEs this set! More than I ever imagined. This has got to be the most "steampunk" LEGO set to date. It is quite beautiful the mix of the different shades of brown, grey, tan and pearl gold pieces to achieve an amazing color palate to the set. The Micro Manager in this set is one of the best in the entire theme.Great work on this set! Keep up the good work, Lego!

You get what you expected! This is a great Lego set for pirate-loverrrs and Metal Beard fans. The set is not in production as of this review, April 5th 2017. So I feel lucky I found it at retail price. On eBay and even on Amazon, the price is already going up. I took one star away because my Lego box had been opened and taped back together with scotch tape. :( However, all the internal Lego bags and instructions were in new condition, and since I planned on opening the box, it's not a big deal. If I was a collector and planned on keeping the set in its box, I would have been outraged. Still, again, the set was complete, so it's all good this time. It arrived very quickly. so props for that also.

Ordered it for my 11 year-old brother who has gotten a sudden obssession towards/with legos and he totally loves it! It arrived a day after the last date expected, but the product itself is what counts, right? Although the pieces are many and tiny, its great for someone his age (would not recommend for ages 8 and under unless mature and works well with little pieces and knows how to take care) You do have to build everything, including the people (for those who don't know) so if you or the person it is for can not handle very small pieces as well as has patience to build it all, I would not suggest getting it.
