  • Great beginning band reeds!
Size: Strength 1.75
My son's school asked him to purchase these for the beginning clarinet. They have worked and have lasted a few months. Overall My son is sounding good & I think the reeds made it easy to play

  • Instantly loving these!!!!
Size: Strength 2.25
Using American Cut 2.25 on my alto sax. Switched from Vandoren Traditional 2.5. These play so easily with a great tone!! Right out of the box!! I expected it to be a little brighter than I wanted, but actually got a warmer smooth tone. Just received the reed, but I am already in love with it. I now want to try out the other cuts. Make the jump, I don't think you will be disappointed. ... show more

  • My daughter loves this reed
Size: Strength 2.00
This reed made my daughter not want to ever put her saxophone down. I bought the reed in August and it lasted until just a few days ago, can’t complain about the 2 month run before it cracked. She says she likes that when she’s ready to play, she can just pick her sax up and play. We are waiting for the new one to come in and she doesn’t want to have to use her old reeds again. She highly recommends them for beginners and marching band kids. My observation from listening to her practice, the sound quality is much better. She doesn’t get as frustrated as she used to, and enjoys practicing and learning new songs now. I will keep buying these for her as long as she keeps loving them. ... show more

  • Excellent tone as always
Size: Strength 2.00
The American cut is far more snappy and responsive than the Signature edition. As always with this brand, the quality is spot on, regardless of your strength needs. I will be investing in an American cut for my clarinet as well. Highly recommend. No prep needed, just fix it on the instrument and start playing. ... show more

  • Easy playing and bright, except the high range.
Size: Strength 3.00
First off, I love Legere’s. They are so consistent and trustworthy and they also don’t dry my lips out like a cane reed does. The American cut is no different! It’s super consistent, extremely easy to maintain and a joy to play. So, why 4 stars? I have this problem that I’ve only experienced with Legeres (granted, I haven’t tried any other synthetic reed). When I get to the higher range, around palm Eb, the reed stops speaking for me. The only way I’ve been able to overcome it this far is to drop my jaw and blow really hard and hope what I want comes out. This could totally be a me/technique thing, but it’s a problem I have, so there. Second thing I don’t love is the tone of the reed (purely personal preference). It’s extremely bright. If you like that sort of thing, be my guest. I prefer a darker more focused sound so the Signature Legeres actually work better for me. All that said,m, I can get a super quiet whispery sort of tone, or a really bright in-your-face sort of forte and lots in between. Response (sans the super high range) is pretty amazing. You owe it to yourself to at least try one of these. Legere has got a really great thing going. ... show more

  • 100% consistency with 98% sound of a cane reed
Size: Strength 2.25
I'm 2.5 years into learning the alto sax, and I did not have the time or patience to deal with opening several packages of can reeds, trying to ReedGeek them, conditioning them, breaking them in, soaking for each play session, dealing with humidity changes, etc, or the wear/cracks/warping of cane reeds. I tried Legere American Cut and they give me consistency with about 98% the sound of my cane reeds (which is good enough for me). They come with a nice reusable case to protect the reed. When it's time to play, I pull it right out of the case (no soaking) and put it on my Jody Jazz HR* mouthpiece. I was using a 2.50 jazz reed before, and so I went with the Legere American cut 2.25 and the transition was seamless. I was worried they might feel plasticky and "sharp edged" but none of that happens. The sound is natural but still it's own personality. Perhaps the very thing that makes it consistent is what makes the sound feel free of "natural imperfections" that you might get out of a cane reed. If a professional recording/performance is what you're doing, cane is probably the right kind to use. For everything else, I'd prefer Legere American cuts for consistency while still maintaining a proper sound profile. ... show more

Love these reeds! Best decision I made to switch to these reeds!

  • I like it.
Size: Strength 2.25
I bought this reed with a bit of a skeptical expectation, but I just admit I am thoroughly surprised and pleased. I’m playing on a Yahama YAS-62, which has a nice full sound. I’ve tried numerous brands and strengths of cane reeds, am gotten good results, but versatility has always been an issue. I bought a 2.25 strength in these and wow!( I usually buy 3s in cane reeds, and Sam’s them a little only I am happy with the sound.) I read some reviews and took some advice on strength.) I feel I can play sweet or aggressive on the same reed. I will admit that my bottom lip does seem to hurt a little more than normal. But the sound is awesome. Gonna try on soprano as well. ... show more
