  • Good shorts
Size: 44 Big Color: Vapor
I bought two pairs of these, one black the other brown, and have enjoyed them both. They fit me well and were true to size. They seem well made and have lasted me two seasons already.

  • Awesome! Only one problem...
Size: 44 Big Color: Buff
So, I really like these shorts. For the price they are great quality and they fit great. Only one problem - they sent the wrong color. I ordered the "Buff" color, which is a light khaki. They sent the "Vapor" color, which looks gray. So, I liked them enough that I was going to buy another pair, anyway, so I did just that. Only this time I am ordering the "Bourbon" color rather than the Buff. So, really no biggie. Hopefully they get the color right this time. I think this is the first time Amazon has sent the wrong item to me before that I can remember in 23-years of ordering here. Fortunately, I liked the item and the "wrong" color and liked the quality enough, so I still give it 4-stars. It would have been 5 had the order been correct. The shorts themselves strike me as a 5-star. I love the thickness of the material, and, again, they fit great and are great quality for the price. I'm 6'7" and 340 lbs, so the 44 waist is terrific. 3-Stars for Amazon.com on this one. 5-Stars for the shorts. ... show more

This is a repurchase of a different sku. I am satisfied with the balance of quality, fit and price. They all come together for a great product.

  • A comparative brand review for guys with big thighs
Size: 54 Big Color: Sporting Blue
First, to Amazon: Thank you for your patience with me, as I generally had to order all these and send many items back that were not my best fit. Just because I sent many back, it does not mean they are not good products, just not the best for my particular needs or fit. This is a comparitve review for men with bigger thighs muscular or otherwise on several brands of shorts for several brands of shorts. Due to it being a comparative review for several types of shorts, the star rating only applies to the shorts this review is posted under. There will be pocket size comparisons for those who are into firearms, for the shorts in which concealment becomes possible. The bands and types that are included are: Wrangler 5-star premium cargo shorts, for some reason referred to as Authentics Men's Classic Cargo Stretch Short on Amazon. Wrangler RIGGS Workwear Ripstop Ranger Cargo Short Lee Extreme Motion Crossroad Lee belted Wyoming Amazon Essential Classic Fit RedHead Fulton Flex Cargo Shorts First, about my physical dimensions and what I typically find comfortable for clarity and transparency on the reviews: I am 5'10"), with a very wide bone and muscle structure. Due to my build, if I walk into a wall, my chest will be the first thing that touches. kind of like what you would see on guys who compete in strongman competitions. I have large thighs compared to most people. So this review will be helpful for people with large thighs who may have to resort to buying from the big and tall selections. I am used to wearing Wrangler Five-Star Premium Cargo Shorts throughout the year in Florida (I am originally from central New York State), as jean pants generally do not fit me due to my thigh size. My major issue with shorts and pants fitting is that I normally have to increase the waist size so much that it leaves the shorts very loose around my waist, just to make them fit in the butt and thigh area. This is not helped by the fact that I wear my shorts in a way that is considered in a low position for my waistband (not even close to so low you see any of my butt crack, much less all of it like some young people typically do) There are generally two main categories of shorts, in my opinion: a performance short that is lightweight and made of light performance blended fabrics made of more nylon/spandex, and a traditional style made of heavier/thicker cotton fabrics that have little to no blended fabrics. I often prefer the latter of these due to what I am used to and what usually fits me, but I did find one short that was very much a performance short that was arguably one of, if not the most comfortable, of all the shorts mentioned. First, since I will generally compare many to these shorts, since it is the one I am most familiar with Wrangler 5-star premium cargo shorts, for some reason referred to as Authentics Men's Classic Cargo Stretch Short on Amazon: These are durable, but some who have been wearing them for the last 20 plus years will say they have changed. One notable thing is that the main fastening button has been changed from a metal riveted button to a sewn plastic/nylon button. This has pros and cons. Pro: now it can easily be repaired if needed or even adjusted to some extent. Con: obviously not durable as a metal riveted button. Many will say these shorts are a general go-to for big guys. That does not mean there are no ways to improve them. They are closer to traditional cotton fabric style and not performance, although they have a small touch of spandex (2%), which is typical of even most traditional style shorts). The pockets are the 2nd largest of the shorts I review, and the front slash pockets will fit some small firearms if you choose. (most likely limited to .380 acp cal or the smallest of 9mm luger) The thighs/butt fitting is equally large to the top three in terms of roominess. If you are into non-performance style shorts, this is likely one you should look into if you need extra area in the thighs/butt area. Wrangler Riggs: Generally seems more durable or heavier than the others and has a gusseted crotch, which I do not see any benefit in, and if anything, due to my preference to wear my shorts waistband slightly low, the lower crotch is actually uncomfortable and impedes movement. However, if you are taller, this may work for you. The pockets are smaller than the wrangler authentics/5 star and generally are not usable for carry, in my opinion. Lee belted Wyoming: fairly tight around the crotch for me, but otherwise similar to Wrangler Authentics. If you like the belt, then it is a plus. I was actually thinking I would not like the belt, but as I found that it did stay tight when and did not loosen over time, I actually liked it. I should say that I stopped using standard pin-style buckles leather belts, and switched to nylon tactical belts with COBRA buckles. If you need cargo pockets, then this may be a pick for you as well. Lee extreme motion crossroad performance shorts: This is a performance fabric short. 73% cotton, 24% nylon, 3% spandex. The fabric is light and ideal for hot weather use and will more than likely dry fairly fast if you get it wet. I normally do not like performance fabric shorts, but these were actually the most likely the comfortable of the shorts I reviewed. Due to the fact that I am used to heavier fabric, it does leave me feeling a bit naked despite being fully covered. One of the issues I typically have with performance wear is the light waistband that does not grip my waist. However, these shorts have a thicker waistband, which is why I actually kept them, unlike most of the other shorts I am reviewing. Once again, just because I sent certain shorts back does not mean you will not like them, which is why I am not really emphasizing what I kept. I do feel the need to mention that I kept these, considering I mentioned shorts of this style are normally not what I care for. It is expected that many people may price shop, but I can not mention what I paid for them due to Amazon's policy. Despite this, it will hopefully permit me to mention that I did get them at a substantial percentage off, which made me purchase them to try out. Glad I purchased them. Would I purchase them if they were not on sale? I still prefer non-performance fabrics, but if I did prefer performance fabrics, not only would I purchase them at the normal price, but I would most likely buy several pairs of them. The only thing I worry about with these shorts, and any performance fabric shorts for that matter, is the durability, as I have not had the best experience with the durability of performance fabrics in regard to tearing in comparison to more traditional fabrics. I do imagine it will be more resistant to staining, though. Time will tell, and I may come back to update this. Amazon essential classic fit shorts: These shorts are pretty generic, traditional fabric shorts made of 100% cotton, which makes them the only shorts with no spandex in all the shorts reviewed. They are about as comfortable as the Wrangler authentics shorts in regards to thigh and butt room. There are a few things that should be mentioned specifically: 1. The waistband is rather thick in construction, making it more likely to grip the waist. 2. The construction is rather robust, but the fit and finish may be left a bit wanting. But please consider number 3 as they seem related to me. 3. The price point at the time I purchased these shorts (not on sale) was about 1/2 the price of most of the other shorts, which makes the fit and finish understandable. 4. The buttons for the cargo pockets are concealed and are very hard to open and shut. Velcro would have a better design choice. It was annoying enough that I had a family member who can sew modify the shorts to make the cargo pocket stay closed with velcro. Obviously, this meant I kept the shorts. I most likely would not have done so if it were not for the price point. 5. THE MOST IMPORTANT NOTE FOR THESE SHORTS: THE SHORTS ARE SIZED IN A WAY THAT THEY ARE VERY SMALL IN COMPARISON TO ANY OTHER SHORTS. IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING THESE, BUY A PAIR TWO SIZES BIGGER EX. A 44 INSTEAD OF A 40. RedHead Fulton flex cargo shorts: These shorts are very comparable to wrangler authentics/ five star premium to the point I spent a lot more time comparing the differences between them. 1. The shorts I compared weigh slightly more than the wrangler authentics. What does this mean, I am not sure. 2. The pockets are bigger than those of the wrangler authentics. This makes them usable to conceal a small 9mm Luger firearm. 3. If you are similar to me in height and wear your shorts as I do they will be slightly more comfortable in the crotch area as the distance from the waist to the crotch is slightly less, making it move with me more appropriately where it separates to each leg. 4. If you have an issue with the fact wrangler stopped using the metal riveted button, these may be for you at the button is a metal riveted button. The combination of the above made these shorts a favorite for me. ... show more
