I have several Leatherman and Gerber products including the Wave. After a while of carrying flagship products for EDC, eventually the bulky feel started to wear thin on me. I downsized to a Skeletool but found myself need to go pull out my Wave or Gerber Centerline to finish the job. This Curl makes up for the lack of options Skeletool does not have and without the weight of the Wave or Gerbers.     • Think of it as Wave Light
Very similar to the Wave+. no saw, no serrated knife. This reduces weight. I don't need two knives, and I don't really think I'll need a saw in my multitool. They replaced the small bit driver with an Awl which I think is a better option. The nylon sheath seems to be of high quality and has a strong snap closure. 4 stars for value as Leatherman is a bit expensive, but they do offer 25 year warrantee. ... show more

Full disclosure; I have a slight leatherman addiction. I keep one in all of vehicles including my motorcycles. I keep one in my golf bag and there’s one in my desk. Plus a few extras for my ever changing EDC. This curl is the best one I’ve owned. Has all the the things I need nothing I don’t. The interchangeable bits combined with the bit kit are a game changer. For some context here, I've been working as a prototype fabricator for about a decade now, I build a lot of stuff and almost always need a multitool at my side. Since Covid hit I haven't needed my beefy Surge nearly as much, but I still find myself needing a multitool pretty often. I have a wave, skeletool, a juice, and an assortment of other leathermans as well, but they are either akward in the pocket, are too small, or just don't have enough features. Enter the Leatherman Curl. The Leatherman Curl is pretty rad, and its got some subtle features that are pretty nice improvements over the Wave. While its really nice having 4 tools that you can open from the exterior on the wave, I personally find that I only would ever use the knife and the saw, and occasionally the serrated knife when I just need a sharp thing to open something. Removing two tools means the curl becomes lighter and it becomes thinner which makes it much more pocket friendly. Swapping out the eyeglass tool for an awl was an awesome move on leathermans part as well. Something else that's pretty neat about how they designed the curl is that all the interior tools lock via a slipjoint mechanism. this reduces the part count for leatherman which means they can cut some cost. Not only that, but since slipjoints use a cam and a spring in order to lock, they were able to adjust when the spring actually contacts the cam of the interior tools resulting in easier tool access. In layman's terms, you can pull tools out from the inside without ripping off your fingernails! Out of the slew of different leathermans I have owned, this one has the nicest feeling interior tools. Some things I did notice on mine that were only minor annoyances were that there was a noticeable burr left on one of the screws, and some of the edges had very very very minor burrs that were knocked down with a pass or two of a file. Far from deal breakers for me. I think the only downside is that I would have much preferred having a saw over a file on the exterior of the tool, so I'll be buying a spare saw from a wave and swapping it out. Again, not a deal breaker. Overall, the Curl covers 95% of the things I use a multitool for while also being incredibly pocket friendly, wallet friendly, and even fingernail friendly. Oddly enough, I think i actually preferer this over the wave and I'll likely be purchasing a backup one or two in the not too distant future! ... show more

I considered the Wingman and Wave Plus as well but the Curl was the right choice. The locking straight blade, pocket clip, scissors, and size were top selling points for me. The Wingman has a combo blade (half straight, half serrated) which are tough to sharpen. The Wave Plus lacks a pocket clip and the one available to buy separately does not seem as high quality as the Curl’s. Any smaller options lack quality scissors. Any larger options would be unnecessary weight. This fits a sweet spot and pays homage to the original Leatherman regarding its look and feel. I have more good things to say about this tool but will leave it at that. Leatherman did good with this one and has earned my recommendation. ... show more

I understand this is the budget version of the Wave and the lack of saw+serrated blade is ok considering it's cheaper. But the fact that it's missing the lock mechanism on the inside tools is such a dealbreaker for me. Even then, it's such a hassle trying to close those small tools. When I try to do that, it feels like my finger is gonna get cut. Other than it's a very nice multi tool. ... show more

    • Not much else to want in a multitool
Very nice tool, for a better price than the wave+. In some way it is better then the wave+: it is skinnier, and noticiably lighter, and cheaper. The disadvantages compared to the wave+ are: missing a saw and second blade which is cerrated. Also it has less handle curvature on one side, so if squeezing pliers really hard, the handle may dig into your hand a bit more. But also it is just a smidge more flimsy, but very little, and that's it. I am a very casual user, and I won't miss those other tools, or the handle curvature, but a better comfort is a big plus in my book. However, as a casual user, I think I like the wingman even more. They are even more flimsy, though plenty sturdy for my type of use (occasional around the house). But what I like about the wingman is spring-action pliers. Though it has a combo serayed knife blade, which I am not a fan of. ... show more
