  • Cheap but fun slicing food
This is one of three sets I bought for my son when he got his play kitchen. This one feels the cheapest as far as thinner plastic and smaller velcro than the other sets but I still like it. Each one is only two pieces which makes it simple to slice and put back together. The knife is perfect for slicing and much better than the knife that came with another set we got. I also like the pieces like the pear and strawberry which we didn't get with our other sets. My son for some reason became attached to the corn immediately and loves pulling it apart and carrying it around and putting it in his pots and pans. I think for the price this is a good set and very simple which can actually be good especially for younger toddlers like my son. Some of the velcro peels a bit but it isn't a big deal to stick back on and so far they are holding up fine. They don't quite have as good of a slice as the other sets I got because the velcro on these isn't as strong but that makes it easier for ones just learning how to slice. Overall I am happy with the purchase. ... show more

  • Truly fun and well made
It is a joy to have a 3 year old once again and be able to buy fun toys that they can enjoy. Rather than $60 video games for the older kids, she loves playing make believe. Having also received a gift of plastic pots and pans and tea set, mom and she sit and play kitchen and both giggle a lot. I have fun just watching the two of them together, and actually have been invited to join them. However, I am not allowed to do any of the cooking! I just get to eat the imaginary meals created. This is nice, sturdy plastic food, and the ability to slice items apart and then match them up to put them back in one piece has the benefit of training her young, inquisitive mind. ... show more

  • Cheap feeling
These do not have the durability or weight that I am accustomed to with this brand. Everything feels very cheap and thin. My daughter pretended to bite the carrot and put a dent in it that Im not capable of repairing. They feel like super inexpensive play food but they cost much more!

  • Not the same material as their other play food.
I love the other play food I’ve ordered from Learning Resources. It’s sort of rubbery solid plastic. Very well made and sturdy. However, this set is not to same. It’s hollow and a brittle plastic. I don’t think it’ll last long. I see my 2 year old squishing them pretty easily. Bummer.

  • Exceeded expectations
Bought this for my 16 month old. I shopped around a while trying to compare all the different Velcro cutting food kits. Was a little concerned that it might not have enough variety. I thought this toy would be cheap but I was wrong. This toy is great! My daughter loves this. She loves to sit and cut up all the fruit and veggies and then put them all back together. Made well. The Velcro holds enough to keep them together but gives to make cutting easy and fun. This toy was such a hit that I had to keep reminding my 6 and 4 year to let my 16 month old have a turn. ... show more

  • Hard plastic vs. rubbery. But my kids love it.
I ordered 2 learning resource food sets. The other was a 50 piece set of various pieces that are rubbery and soft enough to squeeze. Not these. These are hard plastic. Maybe they have to be to hold up to the slicing but the feel just isn't as appealing to me. My kids don't mind or notice and love cutting the food up. I love the detail of seeds inside the fruit and vegetables. ... show more

  • Some of the Velcro rounds weren't even aligned correctly but they were easy to adjust
Purchased these pretend fruit for my 3yo son who is really interested in cutting his food. I have the entire Learning Resources play food set and was expecting the look and quality to be the same. To my surprise, these are very different. These are made from a very lightweight hollow plastic. Some of the Velcro rounds weren't even aligned correctly but they were easy to adjust. They are good for little ones who are interested in cutting up their food cut. I'm just a little disappointed as these were not like the other LR play food - My son on the other hand, seems to enjoy them. ... show more
