  • Wish I would have purchased this set first!
Style: Play Food Set
I had to buy this set even though most of the pieces are duplicates for me because I need the spaghetti bowl and this is the only way to get it! I wish I had bought this set FIRST and filled in the gaps with other sets later. Oh well. We waited until it was a good price ($75). I started my learning resources food obsession with casually buying a set here and there. "Munch It!" is a wonderful starters set at an excellent price. The more sets I got, the more I realized that if $100 seems daunting. Here is what it comes down to: the learning resources New Sprouts pretend food product is the best fit for our family. We've collected MANY food sets from ALL brands (Melissa and Doug, Walmart, Fisher Price, you name it!) and what I love about learning resources New Sprouts play food is the size and durability! The size is just right for little hands and the colors are so pretty and appetizing. As for durability, we are still growing our family, so I appreciate that all the pieces are large enough to not be choking hazards. I don't have to sort through our play food and hide certain pieces of food for a few years just because we have a baby at that certain "everything-goes-in-the-mouth" phase. And when that phase doesn't end, I feel peace of mind knowing that the learning resources banana my toddler just chewed absent mindedly for 20 minutes straight is still going to look 100% pristine. (Not so if she chews on a wooden Melissa and Doug piece for even two minutes.) Plus, if a kid gets angry and throws a food piece at me... Boing! It just bounces off (with the exception of a few hard plastic pieces like the pretzel, ice cream sandwich, and a very few others.) Do yourself a favor, purchase this set first! I would have happily paid $100 if this was the first set I was buying. The only reason I was unwilling to pay that price and waited for a lower price is because I wasn't smart with how I planned out my purchases and most of the pieces are duplicates for me now! But if it is your first set, well worth it! You won't regret it and you'll probably be back on Amazon in a few months looking for more fun Learning Resources New Sprouts food sets! ... show more

  • Pricey but worth it
Style: Play Food Set
This is a pricey purchase but it’s worth it. The amount of food you get and the quality of the pieces themselves makes this a great set. We use this in my toddlers play kitchen and it’s kept them entertained on and off for months. We color sort with them, make “meals”, play grocery store, etc. There are a lot of ways to play with these. The only thing is that some of the pieces (like the ice cream sandwiches) have some weight to them so if you have a toddler who throws then keep that in mind. ... show more

  • Our Favorite Brand
Style: Play Food Set
We have gotten rid of all the play food that is NOT the Learning Resource brand. The food is very realistic, durable, and high quality. This set has a huge mix of types of food and my kiddos love it!

  • Sturdy!
Style: Play Food Set
I love this product so much. We use the same items in our classroom. I decided to get a set for my house knowing they will hold up for a long time. They also look realistic.

  • Please air out for a few days or weeks!
Style: Play Food Set
Everything looked fine. The items were sturdy and durable; however, there was a strong chemical smell on them that may make some not want to buy. If this may be bothersome, be prepared to air out for some time. Overall, I still think it's worth the buy, especially if you will be using them like I do to teach about healthy and unhealthy eating. ... show more

  • Pay attention to the tote size
Style: Play Food Set
For comparison, I juxtaposed the LR plastic food bin containing 100 pieces of play food next to a Sterilite 26 gallon storage tote. I own most of the LR play sets and this one has sat in my cart for the better part of 3 years because of its price point. I’ve been watching the price fluctuate for a while, and then noticed it steadily dropping by increments of $10 or more these past several months. I finally decided to purchase once it dropped to about half of what it was selling for years ago because I wasn’t sure if LR is looking at retiring this specific food set. This sounds vain—and probably more insane than it should, but I only wanted to purchase this set for the spaghetti bowl. It’s the ONLY piece in the whole lot that you aren’t able to purchase in any other LR food set. There is a much older LR food set that comes with spaghetti, but it does not sit fixated inside its bowl like the soup, cereal, and macaroni* (not in this set) do. So yes, I spent essentially $75 for one piece. I’m glad I got it on sale, but I saw another reviewer insist they wouldn’t have paid more than $30 for it had they understood just how “little” they would be getting for that original $150 price tag. And coming from someone who owns most of the food sets, even I can’t call that an exaggeration. A 100 pieces sounds like a lot! I’ve provided extra pictures of the “little” things that make up roughly 1/3 of the 100 food pieces. Eight slices of bread, 4 tiny pretzels, 4 cucumbers, 2 sets of hamburger buns, etc. Those “little” pieces start to add up. And while it’s understandable the multiple pieces are meant for children to make “meals” for at least two individuals, 1 pineapple ring and 3 pancakes kind of leaves you scratching your head. All that being said, I do believe LR makes the BEST play food currently on the market. It’s durability, detail, bright/deep colors, and food variety with their food sets is unmatched. This set would be great for those who don’t want to buy multiple individual LR food sets down the road and just want a basic set for their kids play kitchen. The smaller LR food sets average about $25+. So think of it that way. And yeah, you might be able to get more bang for your buck going with another brand of play food. But if esthetics and durability are factors for you, you’re going to buy from LR. If I were to be “reasonable” and left in charge of how much this set seems to be really worth without offending the sensibilities of casual shoppers, I’d say $50-$60 would be at the very top of the price point for most. I can’t imagine buying it for $150. Just do your homework and know exactly what you’re getting yourself into purchasing this set. ... show more

  • Worth it
Style: Play Food Set
I wasn’t sure about these for my daughter only because of the price. They are expensive. But once I got them, they are sturdy, she has walked on them and doesn’t phase her and you can’t even tell that she walked on pieces. My daughter tries to bit the food, it’s not that hard plastic so she isn’t getting hurt bitting super hard plastic ones. I like how it looks realistic. I would suggest buying for pretend kitchen food over the harder cheaper plastic ones. ... show more
