  • Inspires ingenuity
I bought two sets of this toy for my 6 yr old twin grandchildren (one boy, one girl) who have several of these kits. They love combining the pieces and love showing what they build and create. I would recommend these to all parents looking for a toy that is colorful, sturdy and inspires imaginative play! ... show more

Could not make the cars work because the tire tread was ripped.

  • Really disappointed!! Pieces broke first time out of the box!
I've been buying Learning Resources toys for years and have always been a HUGE fan. This was a total disappointment! 3 of the rubber treads broke the first time we tried to use them. The directions were not great....but ok with adult supervision. The treads did not reach all of the gears they were intended to reach so the machine did not move the way it was designed to. This is the first GEARS product in almost 25 years that I would NOT recommend. I tried to call the customer support number the company has listed online and I get the Medic Alert bracelet line. Not impressed ... show more

  • Fun project to introduce kids to gears and movement.
STEM has done a great job with toys and projects that introduce kids to the basic of mechanics and robotics. This is actually a great way to introduce them to mechanics in gears and movement. In terms of safety, there are a lot of small pieces that can be considered choking hazards so supervise as needed. Use with age appropriation in mind. The next thing is that there are a bunch of pieces so you can be sure this will take a good amount of time to build for a child. There are also different way you can make stuff with this set and you are not limited to what is instructed. There are no electrical pieces in this and it is more so to understand mechanics. In terms of assembly, my niece and nephew did need a little help when building it when it came to that part. There are instructions and they are pretty straight forward on how to build it. The instructions were not really anything confusing. The pieces have a bit of a similar design to lego technic. You can create the basic vehicles and see how each gear moves the wheel and such. The pieces connect and stay together pretty well. Short of dropping this on the ground, it will not break apart too easily. Not too much pressure is required to put pieces together. All the pieces are also pretty sturdy so you do not have to worry about anything breaking or snapping off. My niece and nephew were able to assemble this in a total of two hours and the figure is not very large. The vehicle is able to stand on it's own and move around on its own. You can easily move the gears and such around which is cool. Overall this is a good toy kit to have for anyone six and older. Again, I would recommend supervision as the pieces are small. The pieces fit together pretty well so you do not have to worry about any pieces falling off (especially the joints). This does help with building, problem solving and creativity. It is a great way to introduce children to mechanics. ... show more

  • Great building toy
We have always loved the Learning Resources products! They do tend to be more on the expensive side than some alternative options, but they build quality items that last and inspire creativity and education. I was very excited to be able to try this TreadMobiles building set out. This is a nice building set that allows you to follow simple instructions or create your own masterpiece. It is great to watch the kids figure out how the gears work together to move their creation. The included booklet gives you 3 different designs you can build following the picture instructions. More would be nice, but I am okay with allowing even more room for children to use their own creative thinking and exploration. It came with all the pieces it said it would. Actually, I ended up with a couple extra pieces, so I really hope somebody else isn't out there missing something I have! The one thing that I don't love is that there are a few gears that are a slightly different style than the majority, but they are the same colors so you have to look at the instructions closely to use the right one. The pieces fit together nicely and are pretty easy to assemble. Taking apart can be a little more challenging for some of the pieces, but honestly, who ever gives things like this to a child thinking they won't need to help with something? It suggests kids 5 and up, but younger kids can certainly enjoy as well. Of course, keep in mind that it does come with little pieces though. I love that this will work with all Gears! Gears! Gears! buildings sets as well. It is always more fun to create when you have more pieces to work with. I always love a toy that gets the brain working! This would make a good solo activity for older kids and good parent/child collaborative play for younger kids. It would also make a good gift for kids who love to build and or create. ... show more

  • Where are the gears?!?
We have quite a few gears! sets and bought this as an add on. There were exactly 18 gears in this set. Most of the pieces are the chain and little connectors that really are not worth it. There needs to be double of everything for this set to be worth the price. Our kids enjoy the grears! sets, so I recommend them, but not this one. Just isn't worth the price. ... show more

  • Missing Pieces!
We were excited to get this to go along with our other gears. My son and I had everything laid out and ready to go, then we realized 3 of the black chain pieces were missing. All of the suggested builds require all of the chain pieces. We can't make them without. Very disappointed 6 year old.
