Love this pepper mill, easy to grind, and it's always nice to have fresh cracked pepper. I have to wonder what someone said about sending this back because they thought the whole outside was ceramic, which you wouldn't want because it would break so easily, but reading the description, it says the grinding mechanism is ceramic, which it is, and thats why it works so well. Like a couple other people I made the mistake of thinking "ceramic grinder" meant it was made from ceramic, similar to the Le Creuset baking dishes perhaps. Instead it's made from a very cheap feeling plastic. Not only is it not the quality I'd have expected from Le Creuset, it's quite ridiculous to charge $40 for a plastic grinder when there are metal and wood ones for much less. Can't speak to quality of grind as I will be returning it. ... show more

I had to send the first one back and order another because the first one I received was chipped. Le Creuset describes the material as “hardened ceramic,” but everything I’ve seen inside it leads me to think it’s just plastic. My handicap here is that I’ve never used a different pepper mill, so I can’t really compare it. I read in other reviews that wooden ones can put wood chips in your food, and I didn’t want that, so THAT is why I chose this one. It works great, and I think (hope) that it will offer me many years of service in the future. I love it! ... show more
