Bought this for leveling 2 yds of dirt/sand on my 860sf front lawn. It's a heavy duty rake. The weight of it helps keep it from just floating over the leveling mix. But the opposite can be true also...it is heavy enough that it can dig in instead of leveling. The key is to pull the rake behind you rather than pushing it. This will save your back also. The one downside I found in it is that when assembling, the rake folds from two pieces to its full width. So there is a small seam in the middle of the rake head. Because of the protective coating on the rake, the two pieces don't perfectly sandwich together. So when you start using it to level, small particles of dirt and sand can get between these two pieces causing them to separate slightly creating a slight bow in the rake. Ultimately this isn't a massive design flaw. No one is expecting their lawn to be perfectly level. It didn't create any noticeable dips when leveling...at least that I can tell now that my grass has filled in.

So many choices but I decided to give this one a try and I loved it. It is a bit heavy but that’s to be expected because after all it’s leveling the ground and you want something that’s going to stay on the ground and level. Definitely worked well for me

Our dog has made a complete mess of our back yard! He loves to dig holes which has been a nightmare to deal with. So needless to say, we have needed to re-level out many areas in the back yard with this rake. It has been absolutely great to use! Super, super easy to assemble (your kids could do it). The only hard part (if you can call it that...), was attaching the handle to the pole. Aside from that... piece of cake. Just remember to not over tighten the bolt! you'll want the rake to self adjust itself as you drag it back and forth. I like that the pole is adjustable. I would like to see a better way of attaching the pole sections beside screwing them together... perhaps an insert with a locking device of some kind? Sometimes the pole sections will start to 'untwist' as your using it. BUT... if it becomes a huge issue, and you don't really see yourself separating the poles that often (if at all...), then you can do what I did, and permanently glue them together with 2-part epoxy haha... no more issues. But seriously, the rake works great. I was pushing a sand/soil mix to fill the holes, and it worked great! pushes through the dirt like a bull dozer, and glides across the grass with ease. The rake is thick enough to hold plenty of dirt on the inside to spread into the uneven areas and the holes. Great find! Now if they only had something for silly dogs who like to dig holes in the lawn. Grrrrr..... ;)

I had a very specific use case for this, and it was to level out some large areas where I was killing off a ton of grass and putting in some garden beds. I mowed the grass very short, covered it with a tarp for a week, chewed it up with a weed eater, and tilled it a few inches deep before raking bits of grass away and then using this tool to level the surface out. It takes some practice to get the speed and technique down, dragging it over the soil and knowing when to add a little lift or go back over a spot, but it saved me a ton of time and effort after having done the same job with a regular metal yard rake years before. Absolutely worth it, for my needs. Loaned it to my cousin, when he needed to level some space for an above-ground pool using the same technique (mow, till, rake), and he didn't seem to have any trouble with it. Probably going to put it to use again soon to level out a mixture of soil and wood chips after having some stumps ground in my front yard, and I can't imagine having to tackle the task without it.
