I've spent just a couple of hours so far, but it's been a very enjoyable experience. I'm finding that there's a good learning curve and don't expect to sound like your favorite artist instantly. The ability to play music without any experience is very tempting but remember this instrument allows for chord progressions and not single notes so if your idea is to start shredding forget it! If playing and singing is your thing without tons of music lessons that this might work out. The sound on this instrument is very clear and I was surprised by how many different sounds could be had. Electric guitar in both regular and overdrive plus piano and others. The volume and sound are excellent and I'm just using the built in speakers, but I would imagine with an amplifier and even possibly a sound effects pedal the range could be amazing. Finally, it was delivered 4 days early and yes, I did download the app. I'm still exploring the app but so far, it's been very easy to navigate and hoping in the future to have more fun just learning and playing tunes. Overall, it's a good product just read and watch as many videos as possible, so you understand what you are getting before pulling the trigger on this one.

We are a trio of singers travelling to local nursing homes and providing musical entertainment. We use the Lava Genie as our musical accompaniment with great success. We do everything from ballads, pop, boogie woogie and whatever else. Our song are pulled from the time period when 80 year old have grown up. Because of how we use the Genie, we require sophisticated combinations of the Genie application capabilities. Doing this required intensive study and trial and error to figure out everything we could do. It would be good for Lava if they could produce a sophisticated "how to" set of documents. This is a great buy and the customer service is excellent. Go for it! PS: Due to questions from our audience we put together an introductory funny song describing the unit. It is patterned after Chuck Berry's "My Ding-A-Ling" song. And we indeed call it a dingaling.

Love this. It’s amazing the songs I’ve been able to play. Compact and easy to setup and store, while feeling well built for years of usage. My only gripe is sometimes it fails to read my touch on the frets and the finger sensors. It’s a bit annoying.

I just bought and received the Lava Genie. It looks great but when I connected it to the app it requires an update before using. But the app will not update to the connected Genie. The app is up-to-date and is running on my i-phone 15. I have tried to shut them all down and then restart as well as deleting the app and reinstalling it, but nothing works. I have also tried to do it on my i-pad and another i-phone, but nothing works to download and update the Genie. Thus, none of the features work on the Genie. I have sent two emails to the Lava Music Company but have not heard from them. If that non-response continues and the problem is not solved, I am returning the Genie within the 30 day window. I am very disappointed. If the problem is solved, I will change my rating. UPDATE: The problem was not solved but after I returned the Genie to Amazon, the customer service team replied to me with further instructions, but I had followed all them without any success. Yesterday, Ken the online sales manager reached out to me with further information and am waiting for that follow up. So I have raised my review to 3 stars. 2nd UPDATE: Ken, the online sales manager has gone far and beyond what I expected and has issued my refund that is in process as well as sending me a new Lava Genie that is also in process! I have had others like Robin on the Lava Music team also reach out to me with the promise of help during this time and I thank each one. Therefore, I have raised my review to 5 Stars for superb customer service. Final Update: just received a new Lava Genie and it had no problems with the needed updates. Updated in seconds. Again, excellent support by the Lava Music team.

It's the most fun I've had in decades. My left hand is a mess due to injury and arthritis. My left arm was broken in 38 places and nearly amputated as a result. But even with these disabilities, I can play sweet, sweet music (for a good while before it gets painful, but it isn't due to the Genie). I got it on the back-to-school sale, and it has to be one of the strongest recommendations I can give. It's just an awesome product.

LAVA is a great invention, whether you're a true musician or novice. App is great and necessary; it downloaded just fine. The tutorials on the app are well designed and easy to follow. There are also YouTube videos from LAVA that are helpful to see the instruments range of functions and capabilities. Lava performs all the sounds of guitar, base, piano, &drums. Lyrics with the songs to sing along using the app too. Like any instrument, the more you practice the better you'll get. I was amazed in just minutes I was enjoying playing a couple of popular songs using the preset modes available. You don't need to know how to play guitar or read music to use. I really look forward to learning the more customized and free hand modes of playing as well. LAVA is lots of fun for kids and adults. I highly recommend! 👍🏻👍🏻
