I recently found myself interested in a cutting/engraving laser mainly for wood. I had no prior experience with this type of thing, but I did have the drive to learn. I have seen negative reviews from some who quickly were frustrated with these lasers, when really it just takes patience and the will to learn the software. Highly recommend using LightBurn as it is intuitive to learn and use. The laser took about an hour and a half to put together, and the software takes much more time to really grasp. Missing the gauge on how close the laser can be. The paper instruction are beyond small and can’t read. Taking a picture of the scan code is the same but readable. But still lacking a ton of information. It’s all a guessing game

At first, we weren't sure how to run this because the instructions are a bit vague. However, after reading them closer, we realized the clear acrylic card that comes with it is the tool you use to set how far away the laser is from the item you're going to work on. Note: place the acrylic card on top of your item, lower the laser (with the red cover attached to the laser) completely down in the card, lift it slightly so you can slide the card out from under the laser, that is how close the laser has to be to the item to get the right distance from the surface of the item. Next, there's a power/linear/ratio setting you use to set how deep the laser cuts the surface. The harder the surface, the higher the power, lower the linear and slow down the ratio. That's how you have to set it. This isn't really on the instructions. We found the setting by accident. It's on the bottom right of the program screen. You click it, and set it. For etching glass or slate, you want the power on 200, linear around 40 and the ratio about half way. For alignment on your item: if you're working in Photoshop, you have to know the mm dimensions rather than inches. I use the dimensions of the entire surface of the item, set the laser FOCUS on the lower left corner of the item, hit the FRAME setting to ensure the laser is exactly where I want it to be before hitting the green PLAY button at the top. I'll probably make a YouTube video about how to use this as there are no videos on this particular model that I can see. I love this and you should clean it at least one time per day with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol. More if you are heavily using it. I use this all day long. Don't stop trying. It's worth the effort even if you get frustrated. ... show more

Have struggled to engrave or cut anything that takes more than a couple of minutes. Have wasted well over $150 worth of materials and of course the price of this laser since I'm past my return window. Works excellent up to the point of where I get an alarm 3 on lightburn which says it's a power reset. I have attempted to use several usb ports, new usb cables, and switched outlets multiple times, it worked correctly on the last day of my return window, and I thought it was fixed, it wasn't. Now it's a big ugly paperweight. I gave 2 starts reluctantly because when it works it does a nice job, if it only worked every time as it should. ... show more

I've gone through a few other companies models, before I landed on this one. Out of the box you can tell it's definitely made better, it comes almost 90% pre-assembled. You don't have to worry about installing tracks or 100 screws and spending hours doing so. I put it together in about 20 minutes including reading the manual and installing software. The legs for the stand and the laser are both height adjustable which makes it very easy for different height projects, which other companies do not do which makes them more inferior in my book. I bought this for my husband who started making wooden cutting boards recently. I thought this would be a cool way to engrave designs on the top before finishing them off. To be perfectly honest, neither one of us is very tech savvy and I was afraid that it would be too complicated for him. I fully expected him to get frustrated and end up begging our teen to help him figure it out. Thankfully, it's actually very user friendly.
