  • Easy, accurate, and great value
Easy, accurate, and great value. Would recommend also buying a tripod.

  • Leveling wizard
It's a total game-changer. This thing is like a leveling wizard, making all my alignment tasks super easy and accurate.

  • can't shoot self-leveled line up the wall when it's too close to the wall
Its green lines are extremely bright, and much brighter than the red lines on my old Black & Decker level. The green light is easy to see in daylight and travels far. But I was disappointed that I had to pull it back away from the wall for the green light to run up the wall. I had to pull back 6 inches from the wall to get 24 inches of green light. My photo shows how my old B&D level can go right next to the wall. But if I try to lean back this green light level while it's in self-leveling mode, it starts flashing, meaning it can't do it. To lean it back, I'd have to take it out of self-leveling mode. But it's great at the lines when it's further away from the target surface. The top button is confusing without reading the manual. It should've been labeled a little better. It came w/2 AA batteries, so it was ready to use immediately. ... show more

  • A tool for the level-headed.
I own a number of bubble levels. These are great, but they are not so convenient when you are juggling the level, a picture, a marking device, etc. It is so much more convenient just to be able to paint a level line and work with that. This tool does exactly this. In its normal mode, it is self-leveling. Just get it within a few degrees of level and the tool gets you the rest of the way. Nice! You can also set it to project a diagonal line, but for this, you need a way to tilt the device to the precise angle that you need. Not as convenient, but if you need to project a diagonal line onto something, it does do the job. I compared the accuracy of this level with the other levels that I own and it was dead on. The size is really nice -- about the size of a small tape measure but double as wide. The leveling feature of the device is pretty sensitive and depending on the situation, you may find that the projected line will wiggle as you walk around. If so, stop moving and the leveling feature will quickly settle to a steady line. There is one thing about this level that isn't so good. There is a portion of its user interface that is (speaking as someone who has designed user interfaces professionally) rather confusing. There is a big slide switch on the side that says "Off -- On". This is, in fact, the Off -- On Switch. That's not the confusing part though. There is also a push button switch on top of the tool that says "+ - Off - X" "Off" in this case, does not mean Off/On. This button switches the device from self leveling mode to a weird mode where the laser will be off if the device is within a few degrees of level and otherwise blinking on and off if the tool is not level. Press the button again and the tool will go into the mode you will use for diagonal lines. Also, if you push and hold the button for 2 seconds, it will switch to high intensity mode but there is no indication on the device of this high intensity mode. You just have to remember this feature (or save the instruction sheet). That's just bad design. The good news is that, if all you need is lines that are horizontally level or vertical lines that are 90 degrees from level (which is how most of us will use this device almost all the time), you can ignore the push button on top completely. The level does come with a bracket that you can use to mount the device to a wall or, if you happen to have a steel surface handy, the bracket can attach to it magnetically. (It seems neat, but it's rare when I would have such a surface available. But hey, you might be luckier than I!) My recommendation, if you don't already have one, is to get a photographic tripod to support the device. The pan-tilt-elevate features of the tripood allow you to easily place the level at exactly the height and angle that you need. One last thing. Safety first. This is a laser device. Please avoid staring directly at the laser if you value your eyesight. Or as a friend of mine says it, "Do not look at the laser with your remaining eye." ... show more

  • One of those things that you don't realize how much you need until you try it!
I have had, and used a laser level for quite a while now. But it did not have the auto level feature built into it. I can't tell you what a game changer this is! It makes it so much easier to use. It works perfectly and is absolutely accurate. I really love it. Besides all the conventional uses that it is meant for, I have run across a few others. For example, while I was installing a scope on a rifle, I set it up next to me projecting on the wall in front of me and used it to level the crosshairs of the scope. I confirmed it with my regular scope leveling kit and it was absolutely accurate. I can't recommend this highly enough. Believe me, you need one of these! To help understand how I rate items: My philosophy is, that for a rating system to be effective, the highest rating and the lowest rating should be reserved for a relatively small percentage of the best and the worst products. If I give a product four stars, it is because I believe it is a very good product. To get five stars from me requires a product to go above and beyond and really impress me beyond my expectations. By the same token, a product has to be VERY, VERY bad to get only one star from me. One thing that I DON'T take into consideration with my ratings is price. I may make a general statement such as “this is a good value” but it will not affect my star rating. The reason is that product prices change, even from day-to-day. Also what one person may consider a good price someone else might not. I feel it is more important to review the quality and features of a product and let the buyer decide whether the current price is worth it to them. Another thing that I don't take into consideration are issues with shipping. This is because the seller does not always have control over that. Following is each of the five categories of *stars* and how I assign them to a product: ***** Five stars - The product exceeded my expectations. I really love it and would actively suggest it to friends and would certainly purchase it again if needed. **** Four stars - The product met my expectations. It does what it claims to do. I like it and would recommend it to someone if they asked about it. I would Most likely purchase it again if needed . *** Three stars - The product is average and for the most part does what it claims. There may be a few things I don't like about it. If I recommended it to someone, I would state my reservations. I may purchase it again if I could not find a better alternative. ** Two stars - The product fell far short of my expectations. It may, in some respects, do what it claims to do but has far too many problems to overlook. I would never recommended it to someone nor would I ever purchase it again. There is a good possibility I would return it. * One star - The product is terrible. It has way too many cons and few if any pros. I would actively warn my friends away from it and would most likely return it if possible. ... show more
