This is a nice machine- a great place for a beginner to start. It requires assembly before use, but don't worry, it's pretty simple. The parts are well identified (the hardware is in separate bags for each step), and all the tools are included. Instructions are pretty well written, and very well illustrated. It took me about 1 1/2 hours of VERY leisurely assembly time to get it up and running. I use lightburn- It's the BEST software out there by far for laser control. All of the testing and examples were done using it. First, I did material tests both for engraving and cutting. A lower power machine like this is going to do better with engraving than it does with cutting- Cuts in the thin plywood (2.2mm, 0.08") that was included with the machine took 2 passes at 80% power and 10mm/s. The cut test took about 4 minutes to complete (Compared to my Falcon 2, which takes 2min 19sec) I wanted to see what it would take to cut the slightly thicker plywood that is commonly used for laser work- 3mm (0.12"). This is more commonly available. It required one more pass to cut. Cuts were fairly clean. Next, I did an engraving test. The test took 39 minutes- On my Falcon 2 the same test takes 24 minutes, and on my big CO2 laser about 14 minutes. The machine has a pretty nice range of tones, which will be great for doing photos and similar work. The laser spot size on this machine is VERY small- 0.01mm- So you can get a lot of detail. The fish was done without any processing, and took about 6 minutes. I also tried a few other materials, and it did well with them. The dog tag took 45 seconds, and turned out pretty nice. These are a HUGE moneymaker for me at shows! The keychain was a really quick example to show what it does in pleather- Nice and dark, with crisp lines. So- If you're looking for an easy to use and very capable laser at a great price, this is certainly one to take a close look at. While it's not going to be great for heavy production, especially if it involves a lot of cutting, but it will make a great introduction to the world of lasers, and has potential to be a money maker for you as well!

I first bought the cheapest laser engraver but honestly it was super slow and frustrating to use, took forever to finish anything. After I finally completed a small project, I returned that one and got this ACMER S2 7W model and wow, what a difference! This one is way faster and easier to use, though you do need to pay extra for the wood burning software subscription which kinda sucks but I guess it’s worth it for the features. The engraving is super precise, even really small detailed designs come out great. It can cut through thicker wood and acrylic like a champ, which my old 5W machine couldn’t even touch. Also the working area is a good size for bigger projects. Just heads up, if you plan to use it indoors, you gotta set up some venting or smoke removal because the fumes gave me pretty bad headaches. Overall if you wanna DIY for cheaper than ordering custom stuff on Etsy, this is the right choice. Not free but definitely worth the price for the speed, precision, and the ability to upgrade it with extra parts like rotary rollers or air pumps as you get more advanced. Assembly was straightforward and it’s compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux which is nice.

This is a really good laser for those wanted to get into the hobby and test it out. It is compact so it won't take up much space in your garage or workshop, but still large enough to handle most simple projects. The 300x300 work area is more than enough for small to medium crafts. Setup was very easy and had it done in under an hour. I already have Lightburn so this is the software I tested it with, and it works great. The 7w laser is great for engraving with good detail and some cutting jobs, though cutting will take several passes. It does not come with any air assist though, which is the first thing I would look to add to this. If you are looking to do mostly engraving with nice detail, this 7w machine will fit your needs well. Some may outgrow it at some point and need a more powerful laser, but Acmer does offer a 12w module upgrade as well. This is a great way for someone to wet their feet in the laser hobby at a pricing entry point that is easy to justify.

As someone who is brand new to laser engraving, I can say that the build and assembly process for this machine was surprisingly straightforward. The instructions were very good; the pictures were mostly clear, but the detailed, lettered instructions were what really made the difference. I didn't have to re-do any steps, and it only took me just over an hour to put it all together. I've had a couple of "test" runs that didn't go as well as I'd hoped, with the laser burning a bit too much rather than engraving. However, I take full blame for that, as I'm still learning how to use the software and the machine's settings. I'm confident that with a little more research and practice, I'll get it to work perfectly. Overall, for a brand-new user, the setup experience was excellent, and I'm optimistic about its potential once I get the hang of it.

This laser engraver is and was absolutely amazing. Both my wife and I love it, and we’ve each been able to use it with ease. Setup was straightforward, and the controls are intuitive enough that we were making clean, precise cuts and engravings within minutes. The cut quality is excellent, with fine details and consistent results on wood, metal, and acrylic. For the price, the performance and ease of use make it a fantastic buy.
