I am a complete beginner and total noob when it comes to laser engravers, so this was a bit intimidating at first. Unboxing was easy, it's pretty much completely set up and ready to go, so that was good. It's quiet and seems to work very well. It was a bit of a learning curve for me, but like I said this was my VERY FIRST experience with a laser engraver so I was well outside of my comfort zone. Once I got the hang of it over a few days, it's much more fun and I am starting to get into more advanced projects. It has worked well on leather, wood, emu eggs, and glass. Accuracy is a bit hit or miss, but I'm pretty sure this is a ME thing and not a machine thing since I do see improvement when I dial it in a bit.

If you know nothing about laser engravers like me then this is a good choice to learn on. It’s not difficult to assemble but the instructions are minimal. I did have issues installing the software but the manufacturer promptly provided a temporary work around and followed up a few days later with updated software. Something that is very important to me is product support and I am extremely pleased with the support I have received. I have communicated with questions on three or four occasions and received courteous and responsive responses within 24 hours. The program that comes with the engraver is fairly basic which makes it easier to learn. This engraver is compatible with more advanced software such as Lightburn so future upgrading isn’t an issue. I have been using the engraver for only a few weeks but have already produced a nice sign on wood and am working on a leather wallet. Like many new products, there is a learning curve and laser engravers are no exception. Selecting the right engraver and software to learn on is important and I believe this is an excellent choice both financially and technologically.

If you're just starting out, this is a pretty good machine to start with. Assembly is pretty straightforward but the instruction booklet could use a few more images to make the assembly process a little easier to understand. HINT: There's a short video of the assembly process on the included USB thumb drive. This would have cleared up any questions I had if it was mentioned in the instructions. The laser machine itself is built well. It has a solid metal frame and the x-axis and y-axis beams are metal also. The laser itself is a 5W laser. There's no information on how deep this laser can cut for a particular type of material but a 5W laser is a relatively low-power unit. If you plan on using this a lot, you'll want to add an air assist to increase the longevity of the laser and get cleaner looking lines with less smoke and debris. I only have a Mac computer so I was not able to test the included Windows software that is included on the USB thumb drive. There is a software program called LightBurn that runs on a Mac. However, it costs $99, but you get a 30 day free trial to see if you like it before having to purchase it. I think they should mention that you have to purchase this software if you have a Mac computer. I didn't have any problem connecting the LightBurn software to the laser engraver. Plan on spending a few hours learning how to use the software. There's definitely a learning curve. Use cheap material to start with because you're going to make mistakes setting things up properly. Overall, this is a good quality laser engraver/cutter. It's a good machine to start with to learn the process without having to put a lot of money into it. Definitely recommended. My rating method: ★ - terrible. I wouldn't consider buying it. ★★ - marginal at best. Doesn't meet the minimum requirements or quality to be useful. Buy it at your own risk. ★★★ - average. Meets the quality and requirements for a product of this type but is nothing out of the ordinary. If the price is good, I'd probably buy it. ★★★★ - better than average. Exceeds the typical quality of a product of this type and has a few extra features not usually found on other products of this type. I'd buy it. ★★★★★ - exceptional - far exceeds the quality of products of this type. Hard to beat the quality and features included. Best value for the money. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it.

Fantastic gift for those wanting to start in this hobby . Everything you need is here to get up and running ,and it does work great once you get it up and running with the software. It really is nice ,really is ,just make sure you have some rubber something to hold it in place ,really doesn't move but could move on a smooth surface. Fan a tad on loud side but nothing too annoying.
