  • Great for what it is
Size: WAND 2.5W
This is my first laser engraver. Just wanted to engrave wooden pens i turned on the lathe. It took me some time to figure it out, and using Lightburn software is definitely better, but the little engraver doesn't cut anything. Not cardboard, not thin wood, nothing. Not a strong enough diode, I guess. But it burns a very nice engraving in wood! ... show more

  • Interesting Piece..
Size: WAND 2.5W
This machine is like a boyfriend...I have to take time to know "him"...I thought it might be easier to use but it takes time to get to understand how to use it. It is pretty neat size and excellent quality.

  • Easy peasy lemon squeezy
Size: WAND 2.5W
I love this thing!!!! It’s actually pretty easy to use and if you’re tech-savy it should be a breeze. It took some google searches and a couple YouTube videos to help me but this thing is badass. If you’re looking for an entry level Laser Engraver, this is the one to start with. You won’t regret it.

  • Cool little machine!
Size: WAND 2.5W
Takes some time to learn each software. The free Laser GRBL software is really easy to learn and has a really cool program for programming your cut orders. Been having an issue with it programming a line outside the work area and hitting the hard limiter. Pretty sure that is the software and nothing to do with the hardware. Also downloaded lightburn free trial which is way more advanced for drawing up your own art to line by line print. Haven't found a way to do the other print methodes the first program can do yet but I'm just scratching the surface with that program. For the price, this is a super cool little machine! ... show more

  • A Beginner’s Take on the Wizmaker Compact Laser Engraver A Beginner’s Take on the Wizmaker Compact Laser Engraver
The Wizmaker Compact Laser Engraver definitely comes with a learning curve. Some reviewers before me mentioned that they already had experience and found this to be a piece of cake. Well, readers, I am a true beginner when it comes to laser engraving. I also use a Mac, and most of the manual is clearly geared toward Windows users. The program the seller recommends does not work on a Mac, so based on another reviewer’s suggestion, I downloaded AtomStack Studio. Setup itself was easy. The machine comes assembled, and connecting it to my computer and the software was straightforward. After that, the intuition pretty much ended. I had to Google videos to move forward. One thing I could not figure out was how to focus the laser, and if that information is in the manual, I could not find it. Despite having no clue what I was doing at first, I am a dreamer. I ordered this machine because I wanted to engrave sterling silver. Welp, the fine print says “coated metal.” I was still determined to try, especially since I had only seen this engraver used on wood. To work around that limitation, I tried oxidizing the metal and ran five passes, and it worked! I definitely have room for improvement, but it is a start. For the current asking price of $89.99, this feels like an amazing value. It is a well-made, serious machine, and I know that with time, I will be engraving like a pro. ... show more

  • Cute little laser engraver. Not quite ready to rock & roll out of the box. Close, but not quite.
Full disclosure: I haven't yet had a chance to use this, so I just have the unboxing (see video) and what I've learned from reading. I picked this up to see how well it worked on some small engraving tasks I have around. It's a small 6.1" wide x 12.5" deep frame that stands just under 2 inches tall. The moving rail mechanism with laser makes it taller, of course, but that's the size of the base. The actual material space working area is 5.3" x 5.7". The system comes pre-assembled, which is why, I guess, they advertise it as ready to go out of the box. Clearly we have different definitions for 'ready to go'. Sure, there's minimal assembly required (mount the laser, plug in power, connect to computer), so that's not any issue, but you have to download software, pair the hardware with your computer and there as some notes about a few reboots potentially being necessary. Some reviews I read indicated that 'ready to go' actually works out to be at least 30min from box opening to actually burning material, so a small definitional distinction to clarify. The system is compact and the instructions provided look pretty detailed, so that's good. It also comes in like 10 languages, so if you're more comfortable with something other than English, you may be in luck. ;) The Users guide is about 8 pages in English, and the setup guide is 22 pages in English, so a total of 30 pages to peruse to get this guy setup and working. It's a 2.5 watt laser with a spot size of 0.04mm. The engraving speed is listed as 12,000mm (39.4feet)/minute which seems to be a bit blazing fast, so I'm thinking maybe they're off by a decimal, but it's repeated often in the listing details, so I guess I'll have to see, but if that's accurate, this little beastie will be zooming. It's said to be good for wood, leather, acrylic and glass, so really, pretty much anything you'd like to etch. It claims to communicate either wirelessly over WiFi or via Hotspot or also wired using USB. The engraver comes with the no assembly base, installable laser module, an AC power supply and safety glasses to keep you from eye injury from looking at the laser of the random reflections from whatever you're etching (e.g.: glass). The compatible engraving software would be LaserGRBL and LightBurn which you download. These software apps also come with a variety of patterns and graphics to get you started. The SW is compatible with Windows, MacOS and other systems, so pretty comprehensive. They say it's suitable for home, studio or market use and is backed by 24/7 customer service and technical support, but I haven't yet had to make use of those. I noticed in the manual that they say you could replace the laser module with a cutting tool, so this same platform could be used to carve as well as burn, but while that appears to be an available feature, it requires a different tool purchase. Still, it's a slick addition potential. It's advertised as a Beginner's Laser Engraver, and that suits me just fine because it's exactly what I am with regard to lasers ;) I like the detailed instructions as one other laser engraver I used was from China with the, well, usual instructions that leave you asking more questions and let's just say, I learned not to let it run when I was out of the room... This guy looks to be MUCH more instructive so for a beginner, that's perfect. All in all, I think it'll do just fine for etching things under 6" square, and I'm ready to start burning :) ... show more
