Steel Interior - Cloth Like Exterior Looks Like a Real Book Diversion Book Safe and could not tell the difference between the lower cost Trademark and the higher cost Wholeness models. Both appear to have the same material texture covering, however, the lower cost Trademark model cover is slightly less defined compared tothe Wholeness model (when close up), but both models present well. Both have identical "plastic" pages surrounding the inside case. The appearance of both models would indicate they are identical. The difference is the inside box. The Trademark model presents with a metal case, The Wholeness model presents with a steel case. The cases are not fireproof, and do not offer a tight seal. The title on the spine of the lower cost Trademark model is not centered across the spine, is slightly crooked, and the lettering is thicker than the higher cost Wholeness model. With regards to the spine presentation, the Trademark product does not present as well as the Wholeness product, as the Trademark model appears to be less refined, but not so much as to justify the price difference between these two products. Both products will blend well with other books on a bookshelf. Inside deminsions are slightly different: Trademark measures 9 &1/8 x 5 11/16 x 2". Tradmark product has 3/16" additional space from top to bottom inside. Wholeness measures 8 & 5/16 x 5 & 11/16 x 2". Wholeness outside demision is about 3/16"" smaller than the Trademark model. Trademark product is about 35% less costly than the Wholeness product. The differences are slightly more space in the lower cost Trademark model and a better Spine presentation with the higher cost Wholeness model. I will return both products, The Wholeness product because the lower cost Trademark product will do for my purposes. The Trademark product will be returned for what I believe to be defective workmanship.     • It works, but it's definitely not fooling anyone.
This product works as a safe. You open the front cover and are greeting by a thin, but strong, metal door with a keyhole on it. There is a lip that covers the crack so a credit card or other device can't get in to persuade the locking mechanism to step aside and open without a key, which seems to work. I couldn't crack it open without a key in all the times I tried, which was, admittedly, very few times. The key isn't a generic key you would get with a $1 made in Taiwan lock from the Everything's a Dollar store. It's actually cut like a real key, and not like a key from a children's playset, which is what I expected. It wouldn't be easy to replicate by someone trying to steal your stuff. As a safe, it works. Plain and simple. It's nice for a safe of its size, but don't expect it to hold top secret materials if someone is determined to get into it. It's small and cheap, and although it's not simple to break in to, it wouldn't stop the most determined of robbers. That said, this isn't a safe people would buy for items of the utmost importance, so it works perfect for what it is. Those are they words. Now, when it comes to aesthetics, that's where the safe goes downhill. No one is ever going to believe this is a book. Not unless they are on the other side of the room and looking in the other direction. If someone is looking through your bookshelf, their first thought would be "why do they have a fake dictionary?" This book stands out as so obviously fake that people are almost guaranteed to pick it up to find out why you have a plastic book on your desk, shelf, or whatever you put it on. That's right, plastic. The cover is not plastic and is, in fact, made out of the same thing all hardcover books are made from (and feels like it'll fall off if opened more than 10 times), but the rest of the outside is plastic. The "pages" are a bright, shiny white plastic. I didn't expect it to be made from actual paper because that wouldn't work, but there are ways to make it less obvious, less shiny, and less of a sore thumb. They didn't do that, though, so it sticks out badly. There is also a small slit on top for coins to slide through, like a piggy bank. I dislike that very much, because it makes it ten times more noticeable. Even if it did fool someone, they coin slot would blow its cover. Plus, small things want to fall out if you're picking it up and moving it very often. It's just not good to have a coin slot there when it's supposed to be a stealthy safe. I can't keep it on my bookshelf, even hidden between other books, unless I turn it upside down because they slot makes it the first thing to get noticed. All in all, if you want a stealthy safe, look elsewhere. If you want a cheap safe but don't care if people notice it, by all means, buy this one. Just don't expect it to stay hidden, because it won't fool even a child. ... show more
