  • Big, Firm Beast
Color: Pewter-grey
When my great old leather La-Z-Boy finally gave out, I decided to go ahead and order this tank of a chair, knowing full well the risks in buying a chair "butt-unset". The price seemed OK and the Prime free delivery sealed the deal. Let me address a couple of reviews: If you want a chair to sink into like a happy fetus in the womb, forget it. This chair is FIRM and you sit high--- like a Mac Truck, as my Dad would have said. It's comfortable, but you're right up there. I'm 6'3" and my feet just touch the floor in the upright position. The gripes about the recliner lever are pretty much correct-- it is difficult to crank the chair into recline. The reclined position is comfortable, though, and would make a good sleeper chair for those who must sleep with raised head--- it's every bit as long as a bed. I've used it a lot in 5 days, and am getting fonder of it--- once I got used to the Iron Throne ambiance. The delivery experience was good, despite a day's delay. El Gigante comes in a goofy cardboard box, which was far too big to get through our standard front door. The shippers are instructed to get the BOX into your house, or, if (when) that doesn't work, to put it into your garage. We had them leave it at the front door, and peeled of the cheesy box, revealing two parts-- seat and back. These parts got through the door, but I had powerful help from my huge son. That help was also needed to attach the back to the seat--- NOT a job for a single geezer, like me. As said, this is quite a beast. I am liking it better by the minute. It's an interesting experience for a big old guy to crawl up on the lap of this sucker. It's a LOAD. john ... show more

  • Big
Color: Burnt Tan
Just a preliminary review. This thing is big! I am big - 6' tall and 275 lbs. But it is too big for me. When sitting, my feet do not touch the floor. The seat is 24" high. So, even though I think that it is well made and basically comfortable, I will probably have to return it. Things to note: Some minor bad workmanship at the lower back. Nothing that really affects the chair. [See Pic] Chair is firmer than most padded recliners, but I like that. Lever is a bit small for such a big chair. Normal use will require a lever extender. Also, lever is a bit hard to pull, so the extend should help that too. Fully reclined, the piece between the seat and the foot rest does not come up high enough to support anything, so it is no help for legs or feet. [See other Pic.] If this chair were a few inches lower I would love it. But for a really tall person it would be great. My friend who is 6' 4" sat in it an said it was okay. I like Lane furniture. The chair that I replaced with this one was a Lane and it lasted for about 15 years of heavy use. ... show more

  • Perfect recliner for a big guy with apnea
This is the second one of this particular model I've owned. The first one, rest in peace, got me through many years before it gave up the ghost. Because of the severity of my apnea I find it near-impossible to sleep in a bed with my BiPAP mask on. I had much better luck sleeping in a reclining position where the mask isn't at risk of shifting from a pillow pressed up against it. I'm 6' and significantly overweight. I need a big, solid chair with enough cushioning and durability to handle me sleeping in it every night for the foreseeable future. This is that chair, the best I've found hands down. People have complained in other reviews about how hard it it to use the lever to put the footrest up. That's true to a point. Remember that you're fighting your own weight when you throw the lever. It's like trying to turn a car without power steering. It's tough but not impossible. Once you know what's going on and practice it, pulling the lever to get your feet up is pretty easy (although there will always be that resistance). I love the fabric and color. It's comfortable when I wear shorts which is important. My legs don't end up itching after having my feet up all night and I don't get overly warm because of the chair. The cushioning is perfect. It provides a nice place for my rear end without feeling like I have a bruised tailbone in the morning. The back is filled nicely so I don't have any back pains after a night either. This is a big chair. It's supposed to be. My head is comfortably cushioned by the back without having my head stretch up past the top. My feet rest ON the footrest rather than hanging off like on most other recliners. Yes it's heavy. Anything that's going to stand up to my weight is heavy. Standard delivery as people have pointed out is only curbside, although the delivery people did offer to bring it into the front room for me. if the boxed parts would have fit through the door I wouldn't have had to do anything but slide it into the living room. But that was my doorway's fault, not the delivery people who were polite and efficient. This chair fits me. It won't fit everybody. But if you big and/or tall, I think this is a great chair to buy. ... show more

  • Broke day one
Color: Dorado Charcoal
I was excited about getting a new chair and when it got here I was impressed by how heavy and sturdy it was. After getting it in the house and put together I sat in it and reclined that's when I heard the pop! I am very a large man 6'2" and 400 pounds and the chair claims to have a 500 pounds limit. When I tried to get up to see what the popping sound was I found it wouldn't go back with out some effort. Two little cheap bolts snapped making the chair into a non-recliener, the back will not stay up and it no longer rocks. I wrote the company twice with no reply so I went through Amazon returns and they declined my return because they wanted photos as proof. Since there doesn't seem to be a way to send photos from the Amazon app to the seller I sent a link with photos. We will see what happens next. I will update when I get a response. ... show more
