  • A great slicer
Color: 12-Inch Teflon Blade with Silver Exterior
This slicer is awesome. I use it to slice many different meats, but mostly either beef roasts or bacon that I cured and smoked. Although I have not made prosciutto, I have tried slicing the bacon that thin, and I can do it. Pros: easy to use, repeatable slices at thick or thin. I slice bacon thick (setting 5) and beef for sandwiches at about setting 2. One hint is to slice the meet when it is cool, but not frozen. You can slice frozen, but it tends to be difficult. The slicer runs very quietly and smoothly, and cuts through the meat with little effort. Note that neither this slicer nor any other I have seen is intended to cut bones - don't do it. Cleaning is not all that difficult, but you do have to take the machine apart including taking the blade off, which has three screws that hold it in. It takes me about 15 minutes to clean it. Unfortunately you need to do it by hand. Also, the blade is unbelievably sharp; so, I HIGHLY recommend you get some of the gloves that are intended for dealing with sharp knives, etc. They look like chain mail. The slicer comes with a sharpening stone that is easy to install and use, and it works! Cons: The instructions are not so obvious. Fortunately, the slicer came with the blade on; so, you don't need the assembly instructions. Some reviews complain that the slicer is too heavy (40 lbs), but it has to be; otherwise it would slip all over the place. That said, the weight is not really a con, but a necessity both because of the powerful motor and for stability. The only real con I can come up with is that there are a few little nooks and crannies in which meat "dust" tends to accumulate; so, cleaning requires some care. I use Clorox wipes followed by a damp paper towel. To deal with the weight, I purchased a rolling table from Ikea that is the same height as my counter top. This has a wooden butcher block top and two metal shelves. Perfect for the slicer, and I can roll it into the laundry room when it is not being used. Again, I can't recommend enough some good gloves for handling the blade if you like your fingers. I got these: NoCry Cut Resistant Gloves - High Performance Level 5 Protection, Food Grade. Size Large for about $10. Well worth it. I have seen that the slicer comes in a 10" model and a 12" model. Go for the larger size. You will need it. Also, there is an option to get a Teflon coated blade or not. Go with it, it is only about $10 more, and the Teflon keeps the meet from sticking to the blade. Not the edge, of course, but the rest of the blade. ... show more

  • Every bit as solid as it looks.
Color: Silver Exterior with Stainless Steel Rem...
This slicer is fantastic. Well made. Slightly smaller than the huge ones you would see at a deli counter but without loosing the quality solid feel when working with it. This would work well for a small to mid size caterer or in my case, someone that wants the pro-level slicer at home. It stays firmly put on the counter while you are using it and will cut paper thin slices. I’ve wanted one for quite some time. This one for me is the best value for the money. ... show more

  • Top notch prosumer slicer
Color: Silver Exterior with Teflon Removal Tool...
The KWS MS-10DT is a well-built, smooth running machine that cuts meat beautifully. I've cut many cold cuts in varying thicknesses, semi-frozen beef for Italian beef, and homemade bacon. The slices are consistent end-to-end and top-to-bottom. It even cuts super-thin slices dialed down at a 0.5 setting. I chose this model for two reasons: reviews (faith/hope) that it would slice thin and even, and for the blade removal tool. After watching cleaning videos I decided it was too scary without one. This was one of the few brands in the 10” class that had it. I was disappointed that the less expensive MS-10NT didn't include one (and you can't easily add it – the tool requires matching holes in the blade). I should probably ding it a star for these but I won't because I'm so happy with the cutting performance. 1) Even with the Teflon blade, slices occasionally stick, get pulled through and flung out the back. I think a slice guard that is larger with a tighter fit to the blade would stop this. 2) The first down-facing pin on the product grip is a thick piece of plastic to keep the grip from banging on the product tray. However, when slicing a long, thin product (ex. pepperoni), this is the only tooth to grip it and it doesn't do a very good job. 3) The gap between the blade and product tray should be smaller. Combined with the length of the teeth on the product grip you're left with a substantial sized meat-end that can't be sliced. A few things others have noted: 4) You can't cut full length bacon. This is just a fact for any 10” machine. 5) Cleaning is a bit time consuming but no worse than any other slicer of this type. 6) I never had the slicer slide around. Just keep the feet and countertop very clean. 7) The slicer DOES slice completely end-to end. Just make sure you push the tray all the way (compressing the spring underneath). It might be a little easier if they had used a rubber bumper instead of a spring. All-in-all I'm happy with the machine and would recommend it. ... show more
