  • How did I live so long without this?
Material Type: Flat - Coarse Size: 6" (152.4mm) Length
How did I live so long without this? The Tungsten-Carbide abrasive is much faster than any other rasp I have. They stay sharp, do not seem to plug as easily and I can clean them with a wire brush. The wire brush will not in any way hurt the carbide.

  • Big step forward
Material Type: Half-Round - Coarse Size: 8" (203.2mm) Length
I've used rasps of various kinds for a long time - the classic B08528RLM4 four-in-hand typifying the category. This is a huge technology boost in at least two ways. First, it has no built-in direction: forward, backward, or side to side, it grips the wood the same way no matter which way you go. The classic rasp cuts on the push stroke only, limiting how you might approach your workpiece. Second, gives a better balance between fast cutting and smooth finish. I mean, this leaves a rough surface, but without the grooves and gouges a traditional rasp leaves behind. You can move a lot of wood fast, with a good bit less cleanup when that step's done. I can't verify the third big difference from experience, but the carbide cutting surface should hold up better than steel after long use. A fair number of my files just don't cut like they used to, and not just the ones I inherited. I'll keep them around for the smoother cut and, when not even that is worth keeping, I'll still have some tool steel to repurpose. This tool doesn't seem amenable to that kind of recycling. On the other hand, you can supposedly clean clogged teeth with a torch - something that might put the temper on a rasps' cutting edge at risk. It's a new favorite for coarse forming of wood, highly recommended if that's something you do. -- wiredweird ... show more

  • Indispensible Precision Wood-working Tool
Material Type: Flat - Fine Size: 6" (152.4mm) Length
I was reluctant to buy this rasping file because it was so expensive. And I was rightly concerned that the abrasive coating would be fragile—it is. In using the tool to precision shape walnut wood, I do sometimes lose coating, which will shorting the file’s lifespan. However, when it comes to precision-shaping wood so that it exactly fits an adjacent abutting surface, this is the tool to have. These days a lot of « professionals » do sloppy cuts and fill the gaps with caulking or cover with moulding. But when irregular pieces must match with complementary exactitude, careful wood-working with this rasp gives the results that most « professionals » are too money-driven to achieve. This tool is for the hobbiest for whom high-quality results take precedence over finishing the job quickly. What will I do when the fragile coating wears thin? Buy another one, of course. ... show more

  • Kutzall is aptly named
Material Type: Warding - Coarse Size: 8" (203.2mm) Length
Just received new Kutzall warding file and took it to the shop for a carving project I've been working on. I have Kutzall carving discs and love their performance and results. My other Kutzall products are good, and the coarse warding file is no exception. It feels good in hand, it doesn't give off a lot of vibration, and yet manages to remove material with speed and accuracy. The tapered shape and cutting edges work in a number of angles and fit into some close spaces enhancing its utility. This tool is highly versatile and will now likely see its "medium" brother on the job beside it. I believe that when Kutzall introduces a new item, it like all their other products, will be well thought out and perfectly executed. I love their tools for their intended use. I haven't yet tried driving nails with this file, but think I'll just continue using it for fast, effective shaping and rounding. WARNING: This tool is analog, comes without a keyboard! Sorry. Get used to it. Nice product guys. Thank you. ... show more

  • Maybe the best rasp made
Material Type: Half-Round - Coarse Size: 6" (152.4mm) Length
This costs something like five times more than any other rasp I own, but it’s at least five times better. Cuts quickly, and with the random pattern there’s less clean-up with finer grits afterwards. If you can afford it, get it.

  • Best rasp I’ve ever used
Material Type: Half-Round - Fine Size: 6" (152.4mm) Length
Bought this to clean up my coping cuts on my trim. I am installing in my home. I found me reaching for this when doing woodworking in general when a tight fit is needed very well made and made in the USA. I will definitely buy their products again.
