  • Keeping my BFF safe!
Color: Black Size: Large
There was an accident not far from me where the poor pup was thrown from the vehicle and killed, which led me on a search to find a safe way to travel with my bestie. I love taking her everywhere with me, and I did have a strap to connect her to the safety belt, but I just did not feel like her harness or safety restraint were substantial enough. After a great deal of research I settled on the Kurgo Tru-Fit Enhanced Strength Dog Harness. My first impressions when it was delivered was that it is a very substantial harness. All buckles and fittings are steal, and the chest plate on the front is shaped in a way that actually covers her without cutting in to her. I should mention that my pup is a 70lb standard poodle, so finding something that fits her can be challenging. Not a problem with the Kurgo as there are 5 different areas that can be adjusted so it allows for a custom fit. The steel latches are extremely easy to work with, and once set, will hold the sizing until you decide to change them. After fitting her I put her in the back seat and we were off. In its most restrictive setting, I found that this combination holds her securely and allows her to sit and lay down without giving her extra room to move around. That is exactly what I wanted so we went out for a drive, got some ice cream, and then stopped and I attached her leash to the new harness and we went for a walk. I like that this harness does not restrict or cut in to her leg movements as so often happens with this breed because of the deep chest. We are very happy with this product and highly recommend it. This pup is a part of our family and we want to make sure she is kept safe and secure, and this does the job! To whoever designed this, thank you! ... show more

  • Great Safety device. Great harness
Color: Deep Violet Size: Small
This is the best vest for travel safety. It is easy to put on and take off. I also use the vest for our walks. It is choke free. It is made by Kurgo so it is the best quality. I paid more for the purple one versus the black and dark yellow but since I use it every day I know I will get my monies worth. It also matches the Kurgo sweater I just bought for cooler mornings. It fastens in the front so you fasten the seatbelt clip to the front and there is also a hook on the back for you to clip onto another seatbelt clip that you attach to the seatbelt harness if you need to keep a more active dog more firmly in place. Otherwise, make sure you make the seatbelt clip is short. ... show more

  • High-quality harness, tricky to fasten
Color: Black Size: Large
We bought this harness for our 10 month-old Lab/Bull Mastiff mix puppy, as she had grown out of her prior seat belt, and I liked how this could be used as a regular harness (by attaching the leash to the ring at the front of the harness) or as a seat belt attachment (by running your car seat belt through the attachment on the back of the harness). It also can go on over her regular collar, which has her tags on it, easily, which is nice. We were also excited about the padded chest of the harness and the "Enhanced Strength," as our "Minnie" is 50 pounds of pure muscle. We are happy to say that, so far, the durability of the harness has been excellent. Minnie is able to get her lower jaw under the padded chest area and to chew on that area if she tries hard enough (that's due to us not having the fit adjusted perfectly yet), and so far her chewing has not affected the integrity of the harness at all. Also, the padding has been great in the car. We can tell our puppy is much more comfortable during sudden stops than she was in her older seat belt harnesses. The only issue we have with this harness is that we are not thrilled with the way the harness fastens. My husband has explained the physics of it to me, and it is a safer (tension) fastener than the traditional snap in fasteners used on most harnesses (which would be more likely to break during a car accident, theoretically). However, if you don't have the harness fit VERY tight to your dog, the harness can (and has) come undone on its own at times in the car, when the dog relaxes enough in the car to give some laxity to the harness. No tension, and the perfect roll are all it took for our girl to get the harness undone in the car (again, we should probably have it tighter than we do). But that bring me to my next issue with the fasteners on this harness - they are VERY hard to get fastened on a squiggly puppy, because of the way they are constructed. You have to get some extra harness, fit the fastener pieces through each other properly, and then let go so the tension can hold the fastener in place. To do that on a moving target has required us to leave the harness about an inch or so (we guess) looser than we should, so we can get it on her at all. Hopefully, as she gets more used to the harness, she'll hold still for us better, and these issues can be resolved. All-in-all, we are happy with this very sturdy harness and hope that our "little" girl will stop growing and cozy into this one for awhile. (P.S. Our puppy is 50 pounds of muscle, with a very smooth coat, and only has a little growing room left for this harness, even though we bought the size for dogs 50-80 pounds. I think it is because she has a very large chest and small waist, but if you are between two sizes, you might want to go up one with this harness). Happy car rides! ... show more

  • 5 dogs, 1 roadtrip, zero escapes!
Color: Black Size: Large
I bought one of these for each of my five dogs before a road trip from Philly to Charleston SC, and they were worth every penny. They’re really well made, with sturdy metal buckles that feel like they’ll outlast the dogs… and possibly me. Everything feels solid and secure without being stiff or uncomfortable. The harnesses kept my gang safely in place in the car while still giving them enough freedom to shift around, get comfortable, and settle in for the long haul. They’re surprisingly heavy, which actually gave me confidence in the quality, but they’re not bulky, so they didn’t seem to bother the dogs or make them overheat in the southern heat. After several hundred miles, five opinionated dogs, countless rest stops, and enough dog hair to knit a Labrador, the harnesses still look as good as new. I’d happily buy them again… although judging by how well they’re holding up, I don’t think I’ll ever need to. ... show more

  • Good quality for price, functional for a pit bull
Color: Black Size: Large
I got the Large for my 70lb pitty. I had to loosen it up a lot to make it fit, so if your pitbull is chunkier or a little bit bigger, definitely spring for the XL. this harness was the more affordable option compared to the other seatbelt harness I was looking at, about $80 less. It has a good fit and seems to hold him in securely during the ride. He is a bit restricted, but I guess that’s the point. I have never used any product like this before, but we were involved in a bad wreck recently, and I live in a city with a lot of distracted drivers and summer traffic, so I knew I needed something to keep him safe, and this harness seems to be my best option after doing a lot of research. I’ve only used it for one day so far, but it seems to do its job and it is definitely built very well. I will update my review if anything changes, but so far I’m very happy with the quality, functionality, and price of this product. hopefully it never has to be put to the test, but I would trust it to do its your job if that ever happens. ... show more

  • Works so far
Color: Black Size: Large
We're using crash-tested safety harnesses because they seem to be better protection for our dogs and us than crates (unless the extremely expensive crash-tested ones) or a barrier between the back and driver's areas. We also have one of the Sleepy Pod harnesses we purchased previously. It may offer better padding and security, but is a real pain to secure in the car (my husband bypasses the instructions and uses a leash, causing "spousal disagreement"), and the dog hates the restricted movement. It is also much more expensive. The Kurgo advertises it is crash-tested, but I couldn't find any results. We have two harnesses for our dogs ages, 7 yrs(medium) and 5 months(large). The harnesses appear well-made, though the chest plate isn't padded. I like the metal buckles, but they're heavy and take a little time to get used to using. The webbing seems sturdy and well-sewn. The harness is easy enough to get on, but the neck part does have to go over the head. I wanted a ring on the front to see whether it helps prevent pulling when walking the dog, but it pulls the harness too far to the side, is awkward and I don't use it. The metal loop on the top back works well with a leash. The instructions for securing the dog in the car are questionable. There is a tug with a carabiner that comes with it and can be used in different ways to give the dog more or less freedom when attached to the seat belt. The idea is to make sure the seat belt will engage and prevent the dog from smashing into the seat in front of him. Make sure you watch the video. We also use a hammock-type seat cover that attaches to the back and front passenger head rests to protect the seats and make the dogs more comfortable and less likely to slip off the seats. Our dogs aren't thrilled with riding this way, but our kids didn't like car seats and seats belt, either. We stop often on long trips to give everyone a break. The dogs have a little less freedom, but we believe they are safer, are less likely to be injured, killed, get thrown from the car or become dangerous projectiles. I gave them 3 stars because of the issues above and because I know some people will be frustrated, some dogs are heavy-duty chewers, and this isn't going to be a perfect solution. It's the best we've found for us. Everything works well until there's a serious accident and you find out whether it did. ... show more

  • Well made harness
Color: Charcoal Size: X-Small
Very sturdy, and reflective. Safe riding harness. It was hard for me to get it to fit a small 6 lb.chihuahua. He keeps working out one front leg riding in the car. Works great for walking. The clasps that attach it together are always tricky for me.

  • Would recommend/buy again
Color: Black Size: X-Small
I really love this harness. For one, it's a harness that fits my dog! My pup is super deep chested and thin necked which made it almost impossible to find a harness that actually fit her, which sucked because she needs a harness for her sensitive neck. Before this arrived I was using a mesh harness that was entirely too big around her neck and was snug on her chest. Adjusted how I like, this harness can still go a few inches larger around her chest and a couple inches smaller around her neck. I'm giving 5 stars just for a harness that fits! First impressions of the harness: I got the XS harness. When I took it out of the box my first thought was that it seemed a little heavy for a harness ment for small/toy dogs. However the more I handled it I realized that weight came from the metal buckles(which I abosluely love. I wouldn't trust plastic buckles in a car crash and the metal ones are extremely easy to use) and the doubled and tripled layers of material of all the straps as well as the padded chest piece. The more I thought about it I realized I wouldn't want a harness that's ment to protect my dog in case of a car crash to be any lighter, the weight means it's built with extra strength and the well being of the dog in mind. (When I say it's "heavy" I mean it probably weighs around 1/2 a pound as opposed to the mesh harness I was using that weighs pretty much nothing). The car strap that comes with this harness is pure genius. I use it in the way that gives my dog a little more freedom in the car as she has a small obsession with putting her head out the window. The strap gives her the perfect amount of movement and keeps her from hanging completely out the window and jumping out(she has jumped out a car window at a stop sign with my mom when she was a puppy and I have no doubts she'd do it again if given the chance). The strap itself is extremely heavy duty and well made and I wouldn't want anything less. The strap was the final selling point for me as I didn't want a harness that needed to be attached directly to the steat belt and I'm cautious about buying a leash that attaches directly into the seatbelt reciever. My only problem is my pup likes to do a few circles before laying down and the strap can get twisted up pretty easy. Other than that I don't have anything negative to say about this product! ... show more
